Customer Review: You Can Build Almost Anything With Shelflinks
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this product & expect build many furniture items with Shelflinks, once I have some weekend time to build.

Yes, you can build shelves with Shelflinks. But think outside the box:

I've built two closets, each 6 1/2 feet tall, one 6 feet wide, one 8 ft wide. I increased the depth by adding 24" extensions & an upper & lower horizontal support for stability. One closet has a shelf on the top; the other has a shelf on the bottom (for shoes). I can hang my shirts in 2 levels in these closets using standard clothes rail extenders. The clothes rails hang from a series of loops of chain (rated at 220 lbs support; 1 chain ea. 2 ft); the chain is slid into the spaces bet. the 2x4s, using a carbiner-type hook closer (also rated for at least 200 lbs). I intend to hang doors of some kind on the extensions; you can also use cloth panels on a runner, or cover the exterior with paneling. Just remember to support the center of any load-bearing shelf if it's more than 4 ft wide.

I've also figured out how to build a boot-bench, a cat tower, a TV table, & a bed with Shelflinks. (HOW TO MAKE A BED: 6 shelflinks; 2x4s 72-78" to fit mattress length; cut legs to desired bed height to make 3 bench-like structures. Place 1 bench each to support the outside edges of the mattress/box spring; center the 3d to support the center. Attach a long 2x4 or 4x1" board to the bottom of the front & back bench legs, to square the structure & prevent scratching the floor. Screw 2x4s or 1" boards cut to bed width across the 3 support benches to complete the platform; or use thick plywood over fewer cross-pieces. Add optional 4x1" boards all around the perimeter to prevent the mattress/box spring from sliding off the platform & give a more finished look. Stain or paint. Use Krylon for Plastic or a similar paint brand for the Shelflinks. There it is.)

Customer Review: Easy and cheap
Summary: 5 Stars

I built a workbench and shelves with these products. They are very sturdy and easy to assemble. I will definitely purchase it again if need be.

Customer Review: great product
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this kit along with others for husband's workshop. He loved it. He went to Lowe's then got all finished in one evening after work. Very sturdy, neat clean look. I would and did buy more products from this company.

Customer Review: Easy Organizing Solution
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great way to build shelving in your basement, garage, etc... The links allow you to make the shelves as big or as small as you desire. The only additional cost is buying the wood, but we were able to buy 16 2x4s for $1.90 each at Lowe's. This is a better way to build shelving because you can make it any size you want, and you can take it a part if you want to make it bigger or smaller.

Customer Review: Good for the do-it yourselfer
Summary: 4 Stars

I needed a shelf for the garage closet but due to the unlevel floor, an off the rack pre-built shelf wasn't going to do the trick. I had my eyes on these shelflinks since you just buy your wood and put it together. Very true in my case. I believe I spent more time going to the store, picking out the wood, loading, then unloading out of my car than I did in actually assembling the unit together.

In my case I bought cheap 2x4 at the depot for 2.50 an 8 foot length. The plastic pieces linking together the wood is very strong but has enough play in it to allow for forgiving uneven cuts. Therefore you do not need to be a finish carpenter to have a shelf that isn't wobbly. The combinations of styles to put together are endless when combined with additional pieces. Speaking of which, I find these a little tad overpriced so I'm knocking off one star.

For tools you'll definitely want some sort of powered saw whether it's a table saw, miter saw, etc. You'll also want a powered drill to make pilot holes and an adapter to screw in the screws, or a powered screwdriver if you so desire. A level is nice to have to ensure your shelf is mounted horizontally. Keep in mind that cheap 2x4s are not sanded smooth so if you want a finished look you need to sand them down and maybe paint or stain, or you can purchase higher quality 2x4s meant for interiors which will be smooth and even primed for you. In my case these were going inside a garage closet so I could care less they would be left unfinished.
