Tools and Hardware Reviews of 360 Electrical 36035-W 4-Outlet Rotating Surge ProtectorCustomer Review: Poorly designed and aggravating Summary: 1 Stars
I found myself cursing this thing while trying to install and use it. Here is why:
1) It comes encased in idiotic clear stiff plastic packaging -- it's a struggle to get it out, and a waste of a lot of plastic (contributing to trashing the planet). And once you open it, you have trouble returning it (I got it in a store where they don't take things back if the packaging is disturbed). Also, the package had two of those devices, and I needed only one. Why force anyone to buy more than they need?
2) It's difficult and cumbersome to put this device into the outlet. I thought you could just insert it, but -- no, the instructions say you have to unscrew the screw that holds the wall plate of your outlet, and attach this surge protector to the outlet with a screw that is a part of this device (you can see the head of that screw in the photo).
The problem is that the screw just kept turning and turning, but it was not "catching" the thread in the hole inside the outlet. It was infuriating. You cannot even see if the screw is exactly lined up with the screw opening in the outlet because the whole bulky thing obscures your view.
3) I then decided that I would just try to insert the thing into the outlet (like you insert a regular splitter) without screwing in the screw. That didn't work either because the screw is rigidly stuck and protruding in the back of the device, making it impossible to just plug the device in.
4) I thought it would be easy to just remove the screw, but trying to unscrew it from the device was a pain too. The screw kept turning and turning (counterclockwise), but it wasn't coming out. I finally figured out that a tiny red flat washer on the back side of the device was interfering with my ability to take that screw out -- and only after I removed that washer (it wasn't easy either), the screw finally came out.
5) So I was finally able to plug this thing into the wall, but discovered that it's a struggle to plug my electronics into it. There is just a lot of friction, and you have to use quite a bit of force, not just pushing but even hitting, to plug things in.
6) The indicator lights on this device can only be seen clearly if the device is directly in front of your face. Since my outlet is on a side wall (in a small alcove that houses a medicine cabinet), I can't see those indicator lights straight on, so I can't tell which indicator light is on or off.
7) The shape is stupid -- it does not cover the wall plate underneath.
8) The stark white color sticks out like a sore thumb. If you want to use it in a nicely decorated interior space, it's too visible and looks totally out of place.
