Customer Review: Clear but brittle

I have purchased this product for several years in a row. I have leaky windows that are very old. Some of the window frames and wall areas are a bit tricky to get the plastic to stick and seal.
The product is very clear and the sheet is just about large enough to cover 2 of my windows, which are quite large in size. I need 6 of these packages to do the job, and then a few more as replacement plastic as the winter goes on. For regular modular home type windows, you probably can cover 4 windows with it.
Given my experience I will not purchase this product again, for these two reasons:
First, the plastic is brittle and tears quite easy. Just cutting it with scissors, the cutting line can split into 3 directions. During windy days, the plastic simply has ripped leaving gashes that air flows through freely. The winter is an ongoing battle with this plastic. I tried using the tape that comes with it but it isn't strong enough and peels right off during heavy draft, leaving large gashes for air to pass through. So I nail the plastic to the window frames using wood trim, with a double stick tape to help the plastic adhere to the wood trim. If there is a windy day the plastic simply rips, so I patch the tear with clear tape and after a winter each of the windows has this clear plastic yes but is all taped up due to the tearing, even as I replace some of the ones that have to much annoying tape.
Secondly, I think that this piece of essentially "drop cloth" is overpriced. I don't see how it should cost over $4-. I think in reality this product should sell for $3- at the most, given all the types of products such as shrink wrap and package wrapping films that cost very little.
So this winter I sacrificed a bit of the clarity for most windows for a tougher regular translucent 3 mil plastic drop cloth over the 4 winter months. The 3 mil is cheaper, stronger and will keep us warm and our heating bills lower. More importantly, I won't have to battle the brittle plastic as I have other important things to do. Then I use a regular 1 mil clearer drop cloth for better visibility on certain windows, although these are getting harder to find.
I wonder why regular drop cloth is not as clear as it used to be. As far back as the eighties I would plastic windows and even 15 years ago one would just buy cheap drop cloth for the job and it was just slightly less clear than this 3M stuff.
