Tools and Hardware Reviews of 3M 8210Plus Particulate Respirator N95, 20-Pack

Customer Review: A FACEMASK IS NOT A RESPIRATOR; doesn't protect from viruses
Summary: 3 Stars

This product will not protect you from breathing in Swine Flu or any other virus. [...].

Facemasks cleared by the FDA for use as medical devices have been determined to have specific levels of protection from penetration of blood and body fluids. Facemasks help stop droplets from being spread by the person wearing them. They also keep splashes or sprays from reaching the mouth and nose of the person wearing the facemask. *****They are not designed to protect against breathing in very small particle aerosols that may contain viruses. Facemasks should be used once and then thrown away in the trash.********

Respirators: Unless otherwise specified, "respirator" refers to an N95 or higher filtering face piece respirator certified by the CDC/National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). A respirator is designed to protect the person wearing the respirator against breathing in very small particle aerosols that may contain viruses.

Customer Review: Germ Protection Mask
Summary: 5 Stars

This product was purchased during the H1N1 and other flu scares. I made my grandchildren and children keep them handy, if needed. Those flu scares were horrendous. We used them when one or more of us had a light to moderate cold while in the home and they did help prevent the spread of the problem. I even offered some to coughing co-workers and friends to contain their colds and protect us who were around them. No offense was meant and none were taken. I suspect if a more serious problem had developed they would have been equally useful. It still does not hurt to stock up for the pending fall and winter weather of 2010 either! I have sanitizer, masks, wipes, and sprays. Not over-dramatizing, not panicking...but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, my grandparents always said. Great investment and price!

Customer Review: TB or Not TB; That is the Question!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this product to protect myself from getting sick while flying. While waiting at the gate for the last flight I took, I noticed some very sick, symptomatic people waiting for my flight and I was unprotected. And guess what, I became very ill 3 days after flying. A client of mine recommended an "N-95" mask, so I googled and found the best price on Amazon. When the product arrived, I was impressed with the quality and especially the breatheability. Two weeks later the story broke about the man that flew with TB. But I am now protected. An unexpected bonus was that this mask saved me and allowed me to continue working during the raging wildfires in Southeastern Georgia/Northern Florida, in the region where I live. The smoke hung in the air thicker than fog.

Customer Review: Potential Avian Flu Protection at a Good Price
Summary: 5 Stars

After much study of the prospect of a pandemic flu outbreak (Avian H5N1 or otherwise) in the future, I would highly recommend placing this product in your emergency supply kit. According to the Centers for Disease Control, only respirators with an N-95 rating or higher would be effective in helping to limit your chances of contracting an influenza virus. While I don't think now is the time to start wearing these things, it is a good time to buy them. When the SARS outbreak hit Canada, even hospitals had a hard time buying these respirators. If a pandemic outbreak occurs, good respirators will be hard to find. As a practical matter, I even use these on woodworking projects and other dusty jobs to protect my lungs.

Customer Review: The lesser of all evils
Summary: 4 Stars

I can't say I love wearing anything on my face, but these are my mask of choice unless the job requires a full blown respirator.

Pros: The metal strip is strong enough to keep it's shape and obviously maleable enough to shape it in the first place. The straps are strong and secure without being too tight.

Cons: Apart from wearing one at all, I have no problems with it. I've had a few straps come off in past years, but not lately. If you encounter this problem, stretch the rubber before putting in on your face the first time.

I've used others and am reminded of what 3M has to offer... especially compared to AOSafety products...
