Tools and Hardware Reviews of 3M 90541-80025T TEKK Protection Digital WorkTunes Hearing Protector and AM / FM Stereo RadioCustomer Review: GREAT NOISE PROTECTION!! Summary: 1 Stars
I have had these for awhile now and was not impressed with them. Volume is not great and the AM reception is terrible. They are extremely directional in the AM mode, I listen to talk radio alot and find it extremely aggravating to listen to. You subconsciously find yourself turning you head to compensate for the poor reception. I live in the outskirts of Atlanta and we have some pretty strong AM stations but you find when you mow the lawn they work great in one direction and not the other. The FM band is much better if you are a music lover, but you will be disappointed if you like AM. I guess they are better than nothing until something better comes outs. You would think with all the technologies out there they could produce a radio with good reception for $70.00.
Customer Review: Just what I needed Summary: 4 Stars
I've used the standard ear protection for quite a while. I wear them when I mow, weed trim, chainsaw, grind, and sand with the big electric sander. For years, it was just a muffled drone while working. Now that I have the WorkTunes, it really has made a number of these tasks more enjoyable. I love being able to listen to a game or music while I'm working. The batteries seem to last...I'm not sure how long since the first set have lasted for a couple months already.
The only complaint I have is that the radio volume is a bit limited. There are times when you have something playing that is too soft to be heard over the drone of the machine. Otherwise, the the sound is decent, the fit is good, and they work great.
Customer Review: Not Good for iPods Summary: 2 Stars
I bought a pair of these thinking they would be good to use while mowing the grass, or using the chain saw around the yard. They seem plenty loud enough for the regular radio, but they don't amplify the output of an ipod, or any other aux device; you just have to turn the radio and amp part off, and hope your ipod puts out enough volume to hear them correctly. Needless to say, my ipod doesn't. Further, the aux input appears to be mono only, so no matter what you play off an ipod, it comes out only on the left side of the headphones. There's also a lot of distortion in the pair I have. I don't know if that's normal or not, though, since this is the only pair I have.
They're okay, but not as useful as I thought.
Customer Review: Does what I bought it for. Summary: 4 Stars
To make my weekly 2-hour grass-mowing tractor ride more tolerable, I've tried to listen to audio-books. The problem was that my iPod Touch just couldn't drive any of my ear-buds or ear-phones to a volume sufficient to get through the tractor noise. These phones are the first I've found that do the job. They block the noise so effectively that I can even listen at lower-than-max iPod volume.
I have no interest in the radio - - I just want to play audio-books and MP3 files - - and it's a good thing, as the radio is useless (at least in my reception-challenged area). So, no need for batteries.
The phones are very comfortable, and, being "industrial-strength", they're rugged. Grass-cutting is now almost fun!
Customer Review: As Advertised Summary: 5 Stars
Got this at a nice price on Deal-Of-The-Day. Nice reception, I already had an older pair that works great with the analog tuner, but that grew to be a bit of a pain if you are adjusting the volume with gloves on and accidentally lose your station-plus changing stations is a pain with no presets. This model improves on that with the digital tuner and it works very well, I use them for snowblowing, power tools, just about anything where there's an engine or loud motor running. The older pair has been very durable, especially the antenna which I have bent many times with a hat or goggles and it is still in place and functions well. This one stores presets so it is much easier to change between your favorite stations.
