Tools and Hardware Reviews of 3M 90541-80025T TEKK Protection Digital WorkTunes Hearing Protector and AM / FM Stereo RadioCustomer Review: Great accessory for an MP3 player. Summary: 4 Stars
Works great with an MP3 player! The best part is...you don't need to put in batteries if your using your MP3 player. It works as a passive set of headphones (without the added weight of AA batteries). I can't comment on radio reception because we can't get any stations here. Best of all I can turn down the volume of my music and still hear it. I work on a farm using gas & diesel tractors, 2-stroke pumps, weed eaters etc. and while wearing these headphones I don't experience the usual fatigue from excessive noise. While mowing grass WorkTunes allow me enjoy the ride.
The sound quality is good but let's face it, these are not high end speakers created for an audiophile with more money than sense. They protect your hearing and let the time pass more quickly while you enjoy your work. Great Product!
I've used them for 2 years & they're still going strong.
Customer Review: Good hearing protection, OK music playing, tight fit. Summary: 4 Stars
I listen to music a lot, and fitting headphones under my other earmuffs was fairly annoying, so I took advantage of a sale price and picked a pair of these up. They work well as noise protectors in the woodshop, and they are functional headphones for my iPod Shuffle, so I'm OK with them. I didn't have much trouble picking up the radio stations in which I'm interested, but that doesn't actually matter that much to me (though it's nice to get NPR for the occasional interesting interview or whatever).
The sound quality for actual music is not great -- tinny and bass-deficient -- and volume is lower than any of my (five or so) sets of music-only headphones, but it's better than nothing. The fit is fairly tight on my large-ish head, but not enough to cause a massive headache.
Customer Review: Gets the job done Summary: 4 Stars
I use these safety headphones while mowing the lawn. Does a sufficient job of muffling the mower noise - I don't feel like I'm going to experience hearing loss if I'm mowing for an hour straight.
The radio is fine - I don't expect crystal clear sound nor do I expect the stations to not fade in and out. Like other reviews have stated, there is some static that comes through now and then but for the most part, the distraction of listening to the radio is there while I mow.
I haven't used the iPod attachment but my wife has and loves it. The unit does come with the ipod cord (I read a review that indicated it didn't) and the sound does come into both ears (again, read a review that said it didn't). She only listens to her ipod when using these and hasn't had any problems.
For the price, they get the job done.
Customer Review: Poor quality FM reception and uncomfortable Summary: 1 Stars
I bought these even after reading the mixed reviews because I figured that the people writing about poor quality FM reception lived out in the sticks. However, I live in a fairly urban area and even the strongest FM stations still had poor sound quality and tended to have a lot of interference.
I believe that part of the problem with these is the poor quality 'speakers' themselves because even MP3s sounded muddy like I was under water. It didn't bother me much when the tractor was running, but when I turned it off, the sound quality bothered me enough that I would rather work in silence.
Lastly, after an hour with these headphones on, I had a headache and my jaw was sore; I believe it was due to the weight and the overall fit.
If you're hoping to get an acceptable pair of headphones for $50, well this isn't them.
Customer Review: Hearing Protector - Good - Radio - fair Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased the Peltor 90541 WorkTunes AM/FM Hearing Protector with Digital Tuning for a specific purpose. I wanted to re-transmit TV audio and be able to adjust the volume for myself and leave the main control on the TV as-is for my spouse.
My plan has not worked well. Not the fault of Worktunes, though.
I must say what others have said. This is a fine product to protect your hearing while out riding the lawn tractor or using a chain saw. If you have too many strong stations closeby it may dissapoint though. The selectivity is not really great. Stations bleed over. The sensitivity IMO is OK. Can hear distant stations trying to come in... (maybe still not a really good thing). But what kind of radio do you think they are going to fit into such a small space? lol It won't be a $300.00 FM tuner, will it?
