Tools and Hardware Reviews of 3M 90541-80025T TEKK Protection Digital WorkTunes Hearing Protector and AM / FM Stereo RadioCustomer Review: Hearing Protector - Good - Radio - fair Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased the Peltor 90541 WorkTunes AM/FM Hearing Protector with Digital Tuning for a specific purpose. I wanted to re-transmit TV audio and be able to adjust the volume for myself and leave the main control on the TV as-is for my spouse.
My plan has not worked well. Not the fault of Worktunes, though.
I must say what others have said. This is a fine product to protect your hearing while out riding the lawn tractor or using a chain saw. If you have too many strong stations closeby it may dissapoint though. The selectivity is not really great. Stations bleed over. The sensitivity IMO is OK. Can hear distant stations trying to come in... (maybe still not a really good thing). But what kind of radio do you think they are going to fit into such a small space? lol It won't be a $300.00 FM tuner, will it?
Customer Review: LISTEN TO THOSE IN THE KNOW, DON'T BUY Summary: 1 Stars
I BOUGHT THESE TO LISTEN TO MOSTLY TALK AM RADIO WHILE MOWING AND WORKING IN A CABINET SHOP. SINCE THESE ARE FOR HEARING PROTECTION, THE VOLUME CONTROL IS LIMITED. SOME AM STATIONS THAT ARE NOT PICKED UP AS GOOD AS THEY SHOULD CANNOT BE HEARD VERY WELL BECAUSE YOU CANNOT TURN UP THE VOLUME QUITE ENOUGH. I FIND MYSELF TURNING MY HEAD AT TIMES JUST TO TRY AND HEAR THE TALK SHOWS. FM IS SOME BETTER, BUT IT TO WILL BREAK UP WHEN YOUR FACING IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION.I WILL NEVER BUY A SET OF THESE AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE WEAK VOLUME. I JUST BOUGHT THE Sangean DT-210 AM/FM Pocket-Size Digital Radio, BECAUSE THE REVIEWS ARE MUCH BETTER. I WILL KNOW THIS WEEK IF THE MUCH BRAGGED ABOUT POCKET-SIZED DIGITAL RADIO WILL GET THE JOB DONE FOR ME. IF YOU MUST, GO AHEAD AND BUT THE AM FM PELTOR ON THIS PAGE...WE TRIED TO WARN YOU!!!
Customer Review: So, so Summary: 3 Stars
The reception isn't that great. The volume bites. The sound quality, so so. They DO a good job canceling out the machine noise at work. I mainly got them for the race at Darlington. I was totally pleased that I could listen to my scanner and the radio at the same time. The volume control of the headset was cranked all the way, but it wasn't loud enough to override the sound of the scanner. I also liked the idea that I could have the radio headset turned off and could still listen to the scanner. If you are picky about how your music sounds, you may not like this headset. If your going to buy this for work, they work great canceling out noise, but if you work in a metal building, you may have problems with the reception. If you buy this just for the races, you will be happy with your purchase.
Customer Review: A/O Worktunes with digital Tuning Summary: 3 Stars
I bought one of the older versions of this a few years ago and absolutley loved it.
The old one required manual tuning. The new one is equally as great as far as drowning out the noise but I am not crazy about the tuning. You can preset channels but if you want to listen to others that are not preset it is kind of a pain to search. Also the AM band on the new set has a constant humming noise and is really hard to listen to. Since my father-in-law listens to AM more than I, I traded him the old version for the new version (his fathers day gift). Bad idea on my part. Still like the product as it does protect the hearing and the sound is pretty good. Would still recommend but if you can find the older version, go for it. Unless that is you are into the MP3, which I am not.
Customer Review: YOUR LISTENING TO SSHHHHH POINT SIX FM SSHHHHHH Summary: 4 Stars
The headset is comfortable and all the controls are easy to use. Great noise attenuation and the plug for the MP3 is perfect, which is why I bought the headset. The tuner is very weak and I find it to be more frustration than use, unless you don't mind holding your head in one position or live next door to the broadcasting antenna. I find that the fillings in my teeth get better reception. Other than that it's a good set. The volume doesn't get too loud but then again the whole idea is hearing protection. I set my MP3 to the loudest volume setting and it is perfect in the headset. Interestingly the headset doesn't have to be turned on to use it this way. I haven't tried it without batteries so I don't know if they are required to use it with the MP3. I suspect they are not.
