Tools and Hardware Reviews of 3M Filtrete 3US-PS01 Under-Sink Advanced Water Filtration System

Customer Review: Like it a lot, easy to change filter
Summary: 4 Stars

Installed this filter myself, connected to a single drinking water tapWatts 116023 Standard Faucet, Chrome which I purchased for this filter installation, and am very happy with the filter's operation after 48 hours of use. One small complaint would be that you may well be making a trip to the hardware store to find a connector for the blue tubing 3M used, to hook it up to your existing plumbing. The provided connector would not fit my new (Watts) faucet. In order to connect it to that Watts faucet, I had to find a brass compression fitting adapter to go from 3M's blue tubing to smaller tubing yet (also from hardware store), to a compression fitting on the new faucet. (I did not want to set this up to filter ALL cold water coming out of our kitchen faucet, which probably would have been easier.) It would seem that 3M could have made this a little more universal by having a connector on the filter housing that fits a standard water supply hose, rather than the push-in tubing connector and tubing they provided. However, I will say the push-in tubing is super easy to install and seems reliable. I saw a drip or two of water around the output tubing initially but it has stopped. The filtered water tastes good (neutral) to my family and we're happy to be upgraded from our former PUR filter which was mounted on the faucet itself and always in the way it seemed. Changing the 3M filter itself is very easy; just push up a bit and turn (same thing to put it on, in reverse). I am accustomed to having to use a lot of force to unscrew the former PUR filter and also when I change our whole-house water filter, so this well-engineered method is welcome.

Customer Review: Works great for us! Our water has never tasted better!
Summary: 5 Stars

I do not like the taste of our municipal water -- and when it started to 'smell' funny as well, I decided to add this to the tap. The price can't be beat for such a high quality filter, and the water tastes great! I have a Keurig coffeemaker that, instead of using the filtered refrigerator water to fill the reservoir (wasting energy in the process, cooling down the water just to heat it up for coffee) I just use the cold water tap now and the coffee is excellent as well. Not to mention the rest of the benefits, such as pasta, etc.

Installation took about 20-25 minutes, from cleaning out a spot from under the kitchen sink to putting the last parcel back in. You turn off the water at the valve, remove the existing hose from the valve to the faucet, take the included hose, cut it in half, attach one end to the valve then into the filter, and one from the filter to the faucet. At first I was weary of the deisgn; the cut hose just push-compression fits into the filter, but after two weeks of use, the entire operation is still water-tight. Water flow is just slightly less than straight tap, I'd say about a 10% loss -- which is still plenty fast enough. I do not have a well so I do not know how this product would work with that type of water, but for Detroit Water, it's great.

Bottom line: If you want 'clean' tasting water, for a great price, and the added peace-of-mind of chemicals removed (parasitic cysts? I don't know if that is cause for concern but I'll take it), buy this and you won't be disappointed.

Customer Review: Super Easy Installation -- Water is taste-free!
Summary: 5 Stars

In Vegas our water is super-chlorinated. Forcing us to use a brita for cooking and coffee. I investigated other inline filters, but most of them required a separate tap installed -- since we have a granite countertops, this seemed like an extreme fix. finally, here is a filter that simply sits in your cold water line -- giving you filtered water to your existing cold water tap. It works great -- the chlorine taste and smell is gone. It does slow down the cold water flow minimally. It is no big deal, and hardly noticeable. Installation was a snap. I would absolutely recommend it.

Customer Review: Great water filter for our kitchen sink
Summary: 5 Stars

We remodeled part of our kitchen, and I had to select a water filter for underneath our kitchen sink. I did not connect this to the main sink faucet; I bought a separate faucet just for filtered water (not included.)

The 3US-PS01 was my cheapest option, and it exceeded my expectations. It has a much higher flow rate than my refrigerator's water filter. I've had it for three months, and the water still flows fast and tastes good. I plan to replace the filter every six months, per the manufacturer recommendation.

Customer Review: Works as advertised. Tastes great to me!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is only water filtration system I have ever bought (except for a Brita pitcher). Our tap water tasted weird so I installed this under the kitchen sink. I think it tastes indistinguishable from bottled water. Also makes foods (soups, pastas) taste a lot better. Cheap, easy to install (had a buddy with some experience put it in in about 15 minutes). I liked it so much I got one for my mom's house so I wouldn't have to drink their crap water when I went over.
