Tools and Hardware Reviews of Arrow Fastener ET125 Professional Electric Nail GunCustomer Review: Arrow ET125 Pro Brad Nail Gun Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted an electric brad nail gun and considered the ET100 and ET125 by Arrow. The ET100 was inexpensive but had several reviews about not driving the nails in completely, especially into hard woods (oak in particular). I decided to go with the ET125 which was listed as "professional" grade. The ET125 has more features than the ET100 (4 nail sizes, variable power control, higher max power, etc.). The product comes in a nice black carry case with extra space for nail packs, is well constructed, and has a heavy duty 10ft cord. I tried driving 1" nails in pine and the gun left about 1/4" of the nail sticking out of the wood (just as the ET100 reviewers had complained). Then I read completely all the literature that came with the unit. The manufacturer advised that you should use one hand to hold the gun handle and one hand on top of the gun to stop it from recoiling. As soon as I did this the nails drove flush with the surface. I wondered about oak. I tried a 3/4" oak floor board and had the same result. If I pressed down on top of the gun it would drive flush. If I didn't, it would recoil and leave the nail sticking up. If I pressed real hard (about 20 pounds) the nail would drive below the surface. I then tried the real test. 1-1/4" brads driven into 1.5" of oak flooring (two boards). The same result. The amount of pressure on the top of the gun controls the depth. I could drive the 1-1/4" brads below the surface of 1.5" of solid oak. In summary, I think this is a quality electric nail gun. The only problem is that you will have trouble getting full penetration on hard stock if you do not press down firmly with one hand on top of the gun. I suspect this is the real source of the problems reported with the ET100, although, the ET125 does have more power (14 versus 10 amps). The ET125 gun is very easy to load, unload, and unjam (the nail track and driving mechanism are very sturdy and come open quickly and easily). I had no problems with jamming or marring of the work surface. I would certainly buy this nail gun again, now that I have learned how to use it effectively. If you have any qualms about the ET100, then go with the ET125 (about 2.5x the ET100 price).
