I originally purchased one of these in camo at a camping resort - and once I really started to use it - found that it did a superior job of getting all of my knives and other implements to a keen edge.
one of the reasons I purchased several from Amazon was that they offered a great price (the one purchased at the resort was over twice as much - oh well, live and learn) as well as other incentives (free shipping) - I purchased several more in assorted colors for friends for the holidays -
the sharpeners even work on serrated knives - I had a Spyderco serrated knife that had lost its edge several years ago and once I used the Accu Sharp on it, reacquired a sharp edge. It did required some touch up with a tri-angle ceramic sharpener (which I recommend with all knives after being sharpened by with the Accu Sharp) but the knife is now as good as new. I also used the Accu Sharp on serrated steak knives which are very sharp now.
For the price, purchasing the Accu Sharp was a great buy and a very useful kitchen and sharpening tool.

I think this is the same one I purchased from Amazon last summer, only in a different color. I love it. I always purchase extras as gifts to friends and family members because I'm so sold on it. The simplicity of the design is 5-star and the inexpensive cost is the topper. Last year when I purchased my first Accu Sharp 001 Knife Sharpener with replacement blades, I threw out TWO electric knife sharpeners which were outdated, over-the-hill, useless and took up too much room in my kitchen. Got some of those old dull knives from your mother or grandmother? Use this baby and you can field dress animals in the wild with your knives. I use these for all my Henckels and some of my mother's old knives as well.Customer Review: Toss the steel: This is the "real deal"

While I wouldn't necessarily recommend using this item to sharpen a lawnmower blade as some have mentioned, you simply won't get a sharper edge on conventional steel kitchen knives than you will after a few passes with this product. After some back-and-forth through the device, it even cleaned up a blade which had been badly chipped by a "premium" Henckels non-motorized captive wheel type sharpener; giving a smooth, new, straight profile to the edge. This product literally paid for itself right there: Simply fantastic.
Our Chicago Cutlery knives have literally never been sharper; not even when new. Toss the steel -- this is the "real deal."

Customer Review: Easiest way to be safe in the kitchen

My wife and I love to cook. I hate having dull knives. They are inefficient, unsafe, and lame. I also did not want to ruin my brand new set of knives by trying to hone the edge with a steel rod either.
The Accu Sharp tool is extremely simple to use, gets a good edge on the blade after one or two passes, and I am not afraid of cutting myself in the process. The quality of the construction of the product won't withstand a nuclear blast, but I am pretty sure it can last inside my kitchen drawer for several years at least. At this price - I won't mind replacing it once it does wear out.
Great tool for the chef without an ego problem.

Worked like a charm on a Forshner serrated bread knife. Did great. Like a charm. The knife could cut through the hard crust of an artisan bread loaf as if it were new. Have the Chef's Choice electric, but went with Cook's Illustrated on this one for serrated knives. Not much pressure. Won't do a knife that does not have an edge or is dull. A fantastic way to keep a knife like this on the cutting edge. Bought replacement blades as well.
