Tools and Hardware Reviews of AccuSharp 001 Knife SharpenerCustomer Review: Don't pay for expensive machines anymore. Summary: 5 Stars
I wasn't expecting much for my buck when I bought this. Knowing that I couldn't afford a $4000 sharpener because I don't have a disposable income; I decided to throw some money away anyway, so I'd have an excuses to whine and moan, like the good little spoiled American that I am. Wow! I was wrong...oh so wrong! This little sucker is a ripper. I first tried it on a good carbon steel chefs knife, and it was like a razor after 6-7 swipes. Next, on a gorgeous looking 8" Calphalon Santoku that came highly recommended from some ding dong employee of the now defunked Linens and Things that didn't have a clue that the knife was made with "German" junk steel that dulls after 4 uses. Sorry, I was out of breathe; it took about 10 good even swipes, but it's as sharp now as when I first bought it. Next, I used it on a fairly dulled serrated bread knife, and it is now frighteningly sharp, so forget waisting your hard earned dollars on expensive machines that suck energy and ruin knives, if you don't know what you're doing, and give this little thing a try. You will smile once again at having the ability to effortlessly run knives through food, without the spewing forth of profanity, and post depression from the heartbreak of expensive dulled knives.
Customer Review: Great value! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought the AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener because we had a host of beat up dull knives in our kitchen and we weren't ready to upgrade to a nicer knife set just yet. This was our FIRST knife sharpener of any kind and it worked like magic.
PROS:
-- ready to use, no complications
-- easy to use, just drag the sharpener over the knife blade a few times. If your knives are as dull as the ones we have, you'll spend about 1-2 minutes going over the knife a few times, but it will work.
-- works on serrated knives as well although it is a little tougher
-- worth every cent!
CONS:
--a fine dust builds up around the knife. it can be easily brushed off, just be careful not to sharpen knives around food.
Overall, this was a fantastic purchase. It was so, so cheap and it just worked right away. I doubted that it would work but I learned the hard way when I foolishly tested the blade on my finger. Ouch! It worked extremely well. I'm sure nicer and more expensive means of sharpening knives are available and would work better, but for everyday kitchen knives this is the best bet. Significantly reduced effort and stress in preparing meals.
Customer Review: Works Well and Easy to Use - Highly Recommended! Summary: 5 Stars
The AccuSharp Knife Sharpener works much better than I expected it to for the relatively low price we paid. This is a very simple gadget that is very easy to use and puts a very fine edge on almost any blade.
Use the sharpener is easy but be sure to read the directions on the back of the package. You start by placing the knife on a counter, with about 1/2" hanging over the side and then run the sharpener gently over the blade two or three times (the plastic guard protects your fingers). I noticed that on some of my knives I had to do it 6 or so times before the edge took, likely because the knife edge was originally at a different angle. I like that the tungsten carbide sharpeners can be reversed when the original side wears down and replacement sharpeners are also available AccuSharp 3036-2024 Knife Sharpener Replacement Blades.
It is great having all of my household knives sharp again, and it took far less time to do all of the kitchen knives than it took to write this review.
Highly Recommended!
Customer Review: Fantastic Knife Sharpener, Made in the USA, True Lifetime Warranty Summary: 5 Stars
This is by far the best knife sharpener I've ever owned. The tungsten carbide sharpener bits require only a couple of passes to restore just about any knife's original sharpness. I tried it on half a dozen knives and the operation is quick, efficient and effortless.
The manufacturer claims that the sharpeners should last for several years but, surprise, you can get double its life by reversing the bits - all you need is to remove 2 screws, reverse the bits and then tighten the screws back.
For non-commercial users, the manufacturer promises to fix or replace any unit for any reason if the owner returns it with $4.00 to cover postage and handling. There are no lawyery warranty exclusions or exorbitant fees or requests to provide extensive documentation. Now THAT's what I call a honest warranty policy.
I am very happy with this purchase and I am happy to note that not all of our manufacturing went overseas. If you need a knife sharpener I just can't see how you could get any better for the price. I'd say "go for it!".
