Tools and Hardware Reviews of AccuSharp 001 Knife SharpenerCustomer Review: It'll keep you cutting for years! Summary: 5 Stars
Like most of you, I researched plenty of knife sharpeners - electric, manual, name brand - it's all relative folks! I own two knives, the Victorinox Fibrox 8-Inch Chef's Knife and a target 5" wusthof knife that I use for my everyday cooking. After about a year of usage, I did plenty of research and used the Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener that a coworker of mine owns. It worked fine, at thirty bucks, it was more than I wanted to spend. I knew that I wanted an easy to use device and this one fits the bill. The packaging is simple, but that reflects the device - easy, simple, and effective. Three swipes and your done. I've used it for a bread and tomato knife as well and it breathed new life into my knives.
If you don't like it, give it to a college student - it's cheap and they'll use it to fix their hand me down knives!
Customer Review: It works just fine! Summary: 4 Stars
This is a safe and very easy to use knife sharpener. It works well on everyday kitchen knifes. It takes about 15 seconds to sharpen a steak knife from dull to very usable. It will not put a razor sharp edge on a dull knife, however it will sharpen them enough for the average person. Chefs and knife nuts should be using a stone anyway. I would not use it on my expensive collectors knifes. For those 1 star reviewers, all I can say is if you are sharpening a $100.00 plus knife with this $10.00 handheld sharpener and then giving the sharpener a bad review, you are one star...not this inexpensive tool. For those of you who think this is even a remotely unsafe tool, you should have someone else pack up your knifes, put your helmet on, get into your Volvo, buckle up and drive 5 miles an hour under the speed limit to your local hardware store where you can have your knifes sharpened by a professional from a safe distance behind the counter. Remember to wear eye protection just in case.
Customer Review: Simple is often better. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product for myself a year ago in desparation looking for something to sharpen a wide variety of favorite kitchen knives. I have tried all of the other techniques from stones to powered knife sharpeners. As one who likes a sharp knife when cooking, I just wanted something to dress the edge quickly, reliably, and as often as I wanted to without a lot of hassle. After doing my research on the Internet, I decided to try this a year ago. It is nothing short of great. It met all my criteria and now we always have sharp cutlery no matter what type straight or serrated edge. I even use it on my meat clever. I liked it so much that all my family members are getting them as stocking stuffers for Christmas this year. I'll never have to complain about dull knives when I am cooking at their houses. As a gag, we stapled a few band-aids on the card before gift wrapping the sharpener. It's not a professional sharpening tool, but it is quick, practical, and a real timesaver.
Customer Review: Hands down the best sharpener for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I could never get the hang of sharpening steels or stones, and the electric models take up too much space and are expensive. This is a good compromise. Puts a wonderful edge on my Tramontina Professionals, and it's so easy to use. Just flip the knife upside down on the counter and draw the blade through the V a few times. It only takes seconds, and you almost can't mess it up. Just remember to use LIGHT pressure on the blade.
I use the 8" utility knife to slice pineapple, and you know how removing the tough outer skin of a pineapple does a number on the edge of a knife. As soon as I got home, I put it through about half a dozen light swipes on the Accusharp, it sliced through the skin like butter.
I don't know if I'd use it on Japanese knives, since they have a different angle than western style knives, but for regular kitchen knives, this sharpener is a gem. Don't waste your money on those expensive electric ones that take up counter space.
Customer Review: Incredible Knife Sharpener Summary: 5 Stars
There's nothing more aggravating that trying to chop, mince, slice...etc with a dull knife. I've tried many different knife sharpeners (even the traditional big 'ol big steel rod) and none have sharpened knives like this.
Using it is really easy. Hold your knife (blade facing up) and you just slide the AccuSharp from base to tip. Based on other reviews, I took the advice of putting light pressure as you slide the sharpener across the knife. Less pressure and more "swipes" up the blade definitely works the best. I have a J.A. Hinckels 5-Star Chef's Knife that has been THE most stubborn knife I've ever owned. All my other knives in the set would sharpen somewhat decently with traditional sharpening tools, but that one just wouldn't. With the AccuSharp? That knife didn't stand a chance. It's razor sharp now, and I couldn't be more satisfied with a product. Forget the overpriced electric knife sharpeners, this is the KING of knife sharpeners!
