Tools and Hardware Reviews of AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener

Customer Review: Absolutely Amazing Product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read most of the review and thought it sounded too good to be true, but for under $10 I decided to give it a try. My husband and I were blown away at the results. I had spent 2 hours Sunday afternoon with a stone trying to sharpen my knives and they still were not as sharp as I wanted them to be, but my arm was getting tired! This little wonder arrived yesterday and within 20 minutes everything was super sharp!

I almost bought a $60 electric sharpener based on the recommendation of a friend, but decided to try this first. Best $50 I ever saved! I would recommend this to everyone, no matter what kind of knives you have. My husband used it to sharpen his pocket knife and said it has never been that sharp. This would make a great stocking stuffer or grab bag gift for Christmas - everyone has knives but I'll bet they don't have a sharpener this fantastic!

Customer Review: I think the makers spammed this product
Summary: 2 Stars

Having used this item for a few months now, it seems that the rave reviews are somewhat undeserved. The product puts a mildly decent edge on my blades, though it doesn't seem to last. I have read other places where it might have to do with the angle, though I can't say for sure. Additionally, it does not feel like a quality item, but I expected that for the most part considering the cost.

What I can't figure out is how this thing is so well reviewed. My only guess is that the makers got people to spam this item with their own positive reviews to get more sales. Also, when checking other reviews left by some of the reviewers (there is a link by the persons name that says 'See all my reviews'), I found that several had not left reviews on any other items. What are the odds that so many people would be compelled to leave reviews only for this item on Amazon?

Customer Review: Thrown out a lot of sharpeners: keeping this one
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been looking for a good sharpener for years. I've tried steels (too much skill required for an occasional user like me, and I'm clumsy to boot), big and little rod sharpeners (can't tell if I'm at the right angle), and a variety of honing stones (don't get me started...). I couldn't see paying the money for a "pro" level motorized sharpener. Then I tried this thing after seeing the review in the latest Cook's Illustrated...SOLD. Cheap, easy, safe, and sharpened my favorite kitchen utility knife in under 30 seconds. Does what it says, doesn't under-deliver, and so small and easy that I can touch up a knife any time I even think of it. Only reason I dropped one star (I'd have gone 4.5 if I could) is that it seems to pare a lot of steel off the knife, which concerns me a bit...but what good is a dull knife that lasts forever? Buy one, you won't go wrong.

Customer Review: This thing is AWESOME!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Do not, repeat, DO NOT buy some $100+ electric knife sharpener that may or may not be any good. I got a tip on this from Cook's magazine, which reviewed several products and rated this the top manual sharpener. (By the way, Cook's definitely did not recommend the dumb Rachael Ray-sponsored sharpener with the curvy blades and high price tag.) For about $10, this product honed my fancy German knives, and also the old knives I've had for 20 years (chicago cutlery/faberware kinds of knives) that have been dull for a decade. After 20-30 strokes with the tungsten sharpener, those knives were cutting paper like on a Ginsu infomercial (though I didn't try them on a beer can)! I can't say it loud enough--buy this, and you will not be sorry. In fact, buy it for yourself, and get one for anyone you know who appreciates a sharp edge when chopping vegetables.

Customer Review: One of the best tools in my kitchen
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the best tools in my kitchen, I can sharpen any knife inside of 30 seconds. Right before I start a job, during that task, or after to make sure the knife is ready for the next culinary challenge.

Quick, clean, safe, easy to use. Can be kept handy in your knife or gadget drawer. Rinse clean with hot water, sanitize with mild detergent. No need to sanitize however if your knives are clean to start with.

Your knife blade will be facing up, so make sure it points down when sliding the sharpener across that blade. Five or ten swipes is all it takes.

Don't recommend for serrated edge knives, like a bread slicer. Tried on scissors, didn't really do it. Their blades are too thick.

Makes a thoughtful gift - you know, for that mother-in-law in your life.
