Tools and Hardware Reviews of AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener

Customer Review: Barely better than nothing
Summary: 1 Stars

I don't know if it's the angle that this product creates, or what, but my knives go dull very quickly after using this sharpener.

I bought this sharpener based on the reviews here on Amazon. And the first time I used it, I was impressed: a few swipes with the sharpener and my Cutco knives seemed to work great. After a few days, however, it became obvious that the sharpness does not last long. After sharpening a knife with this gadget, it seems good for the next cutting job, but the next day, it feels like a hacksaw and I find myself needing to use the sharpener again and again.

I'm back to using my flat stone. A few swipes on the stone and my knives stay sharp for several, even many, days.

If you can't use a sharpening stone, this might be better than nothing--barely.

Customer Review: Actually Shocked
Summary: 5 Stars

Even with all the good reviews, I was still skeptical. But when I got this, I couldn't stop sharpening things. I even sharpened a 100 year old butcher knife that used to be used on a farm to cut heads off of chickens. This thing hadn't been sharpened in decades, but after a little bit of work, even it was ready to do more chopping! This handles all my pocket knives (although I use a ceramic on some of those after I use this), as well as axes, hatchets and pretty much anything else with a blade. Great product!

I ordered extra blades separately, but then realized there is another product on Amazon that includes them both: AccuSharp Knife Sharpener With Replacement Blades

Customer Review: It's ok.
Summary: 3 Stars

It gets your knives sharp with little effort, but not super sharp.

There is a review on here from a person who takes knife sharpening seriously. This individual talks about how to get knives razor sharp and indicates that this device does *not* get knives razor sharp. This person is correct.

It doesn't get your knives razor sharp. The sharpness doesn't even approach razor sharpness.

But it is a helpful tool, especially if you don't know how to or don't want to get your knives sharp using a whetstone or similar method.

I use it. I am glad I own it. But I really wish it would get my knives sharper than it does.

For the cost, it's a value. But does it make your knives anything near razor sharp? No. It doesn't.

Customer Review: OMG, I need another star to rate this!

This is the best gadget in my kitchen, I loooove my Accusharp! My knives have never been that sharp - even on the day I bought them! After bying 3 rather expensive sharpeners that did not work, paying $5 per knife to the knife sharpener only to end up with blunt knives in a week, I finally learned to cut with really blunt knives - it was a torture.
A friend - professional chef with a big catering business, gave it to me as a present, now my life is beautiful! I cannot wait to chop, cut, carve and slice. What it actually does is shave the steel from the knife's edge rather than sharpen it, so with no effort at all, in 2 seconds you will have the sharp edge your Wusthof and Henkels never had. I am buying this for every friend and relative, no one should go without this.

Customer Review: Bestest, Fastest sharpener for the money!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used my Accusharp for over 20 years and just reversed the carbide inserts, for the first time, last month. I sharpen my paring knife at least twice a week, my pocket knife once a month and a carving knife a couple of times a year (we don't eat much turkey around here). I even sharpen my hunting and fishing knives with it. I haven't used a stone on a knife since I got the Accusharp all those years ago.

The hardware store where I bought my sharpener has an Accusharp at the cash register for customers to use and it has had a hard life but still sharpens just fine. I guess I should ask how often the inserts have been swapped out.

My brother gave me one of those diamond sharpeners for Christmas many years ago. What a waste of money that was.
