Tools and Hardware Reviews of Adesso Piedmont Combo Torchiere, BlackCustomer Review: Looks Cheaper than the picture + CFL advice Summary: 4 Stars
In the picture here it looks a lot more elegant. The shades look like glass or something better than the cheap plastic it really is. It's not that ugly and still is the closest thing to what I wanted; my apt is black & white modern theme, and I had wanted a torchiere with an adjustable side reading lamp, all of which this offers. My complaint about the quality is that I don't think it should cost $50+. It looks like a $20 lamp from target (mind you I couldn't find what I wanted there).
About CFLs - as a previous reviewer said, they do stick out hideously. The main shade you can bend the socket degree a bit and make them fit, but nothing you can do with the reading lamp. I use them anyways. If this really bothers you, you can go for cold cathode CFLs, which look like a standard bulb, but they aren't as bright and you need shop around specialty lighting places as they are not readily available yet, try specialty lighting stores. Another thing about CFLs, if the color bugs you don't blame the bulb. This is my opinion using the 2 main kinds in this particular lamp in my home. Full spectrum (has number about 5000K)is supposed to simulate sunlight. Sounds good but indoors, it looks really crisp, cold and sterile. The soft white (look for about 2700K), which has a yellowy tinge, looks better. I believe it will look better in most cases too.
Customer Review: Holds 3 bulbs - Super Bright Summary: 5 Stars
This lamp is very unique in that it can hold up to 3 light bulbs. The main upper lamp has two bulb sockets, plus a 3rd bulb socket for the reading lamp arm. If you use a power saving fluorescent bulb, you can use two 40 watt fluorescent bulb for the main light, which gives the equivalent of 300 watts (150w x 2) of standard incandescent or halogen light output for only a quarter of the energy costs (40w x 2). There is no other torchiere style lamp that will allow this level of brightness and long term cost savings.
Customer Review: Worth the price Summary: 4 Stars
I received the lamp within 3 days of ordering - to replace a similarly designed, high-end halogen lamp with a dimmer that went completely shot after 12 years of somewhat unreliable use. This lamp was easy to assemble, functional and well designed, with one exception: Both plastic shades are slightly short of completely hiding energy-saving bulbs. It still looks good enough for my office/study and provides good light. TIP: Use 'soft white' energy-saving bulbs for a warmer effect. This lamp is well worth the price.
Customer Review: Reading light will not work after less than a month. Summary: 2 Stars
I really liked the price. I bought this for the reading light option and loved it, till the reading light stopped working. I tried a new bulb, no luck. So I took it apart to see if there was a loose connection inside, but no luck there either. Mine could just be a one of those that it just happened to. I did not take the chance again, bought a different kind somewhere else.
Really wanted this to work and t may work for you. I threw away all the paperwork, so I can't send it back.
Customer Review: Bought Two of 'Em Summary: 5 Stars
My wife said mine was the best she had seen and she is a bargain hunter. So I got her one, too. Short and sweet: it takes plenty of power -- up to 100 watts per each of three. I use a 60 watt eco-bulb, which is better and cheaper than normal ones though it costs more up front, for the gooseneck reading lamp. Easy to assemble, easier with two of you. Two prongs on the plug. This is the best thing going. Lamps with real old fashioned bulbs are the best. And the right price.
