Tools and Hardware Reviews of Air King 9145 6-Inch 2-Speed Clip-On FanCustomer Review: Great Little Fan Summary: 5 Stars
We heat our home with a pellet stove, eliminating our expensive electric heat/furnace. A problem we faced was getting the warm air to circulate in the farther reaches and cooler parts of our home. This fan very effectively pulls warm air from one part of the house and delivers it to another part of the house.
It runs pretty much 24/7. Absolutely no problems with it, it is extremely quiet and we don't even know its there. It clamps on nicely to a upright on the stairs with no problems. This fan is well worth the little bit extra, (about $8-$10), you pay as compared to others, but then I don't anticipate having to replace this with another fan soon as I have done with lesser quality/throw away fans. You can tell taking it out the box it is a quality product. I will be using it during the summers to circulate the air in my office. Very much recommended.
Customer Review: well worth the few extra bucks! Summary: 5 Stars
At first I considered cheaper, similar fans... but then decided on this one - I'm not exactly sure why, but I recall thinking "I hope it's worth the few extra bucks." I was not at all disappointed! Far, far better than the truly junky fans I saw at the supermarket and at discount stores (not even in the same league!). The quality of this product was immediately evident from its design, materials, even the instruction&parts manual clearly comes from a company that cares about its product and customers.
I've clipped the unit to a shelf, over my desk, aimed at me (trying to reduce a/c use a little bit this summer). Operation is surprisingly quiet. The large, dimpled control dial makes switching on and off from any angle a cinch.
So satisfied, actually, that I may order another for my living room...
Customer Review: Just right personal fan Summary: 5 Stars
For its size it's real quiet (#2 -High- setting slightly quieter than my PC fan) and blows real well. The design is good. It has a stout non-marking clip with versatile positioning and it also seems to be made reasonably well. I'm using it to move air from across my bedroom to keep cool "economically" at night. The test of time, inclusive of an unintentional drop test, are next on the list. At this point for around $15- plus shipping and handling (Drop-shipped from Grainger Industrial Supply) I'd say go for it!
They ought to make and market a DC power model for those progressive types who are in the process of getting off or who have gotten off the abusively monopolized utilities control grid.
Customer Review: OK fan for the price. Summary: 3 Stars
The wattage specs are truthful: 9W on low, 12W on high (confirmed with a Kill-A-Watt). Other specs I'm not too sure about: CFM of 190 on high seems a bit optimistic (I can feel a very slight breeze at 3 feet), and the 37 dBA noise level probably doesn't include the annoying grinding/vibrating sound the motor on mine has (on either speed).
The design doesn't seem very efficient. They could have used a bigger fan in the enclosure, and the big "Air King" circular plastic center piece is larger than the fan hub, so it's impeding some of the airflow.
Regardless, I got it just to clip on to my desk to give some HDD docks some cross-breeze when in use, so it satisfies the requirements.
Customer Review: Excellent Clip-on fan, Except that it falls down out of its clip Summary: 2 Stars
A sturdy little fan, with a grippy clamp. Very adjustable. Lacks data regarding how much power it draws. Grounded plug. Not too loud, especially on lower setting. Added 1 January 2010: But, having used it now for three months, I am a bit disappointed by the flimsy clip, as noted by other reviewers. Hard to say if it is a design or manufacturing defect, but defective it is. When you try to adjust the fan or to move it, down it goes. Much to the fan's credit, its multiple bounces on the floor have not destroyed it.
So, my modified review is: a great fan if it is going to stay put. If you plan to move it around, find one with a better connection to its base.
