Tools and Hardware Reviews of Air-O-Swiss 32838 Ultrasonic Humidifier

Customer Review: I like this, but need improvement.
Summary: 3 Stars

This had been broken twice.
Display works, but no mist came.
I returned 1st one to customer service and replacement was sent to me.
In first month, 2nd one worked well, but same defect was happened again.
I believe this uses weak relay well-unknown maker LiLi's.
I have another humidifier AOS 7135 and this was also broken by different reason, which is corroded ultrasonic plate.
So, I picked up relay from AOS 7135 and replace AOS 7142's by it, then 7142 works again.

I like this humidifier because of rich mist if this works well, but maker needs improve choice of relay.

Well, I find curious one in Japan, Teknos JH-720.

http://www.amazon.co.jp/TEKNOS-%E6%B8%A9-%E5%86%B7%E8%AA%BF%E7%AF%80%E6%A9%9F%E8%83%BD%E4%BB%98%E3%81%8D-%E7%9C%81%E3%82%A8%E3%83%8D%E3%83%8F%E3%82%A4%E3%83%96%E3%83%AA%E3%83%83%E3%83%88%E5%8A%A0%E6%B9%BF%E5%99%A8-JH-720/dp/B0045EP4PI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_k_1

This looks very similar as AOS 7142 and price is about $140 now.
But when I bought JH-720 2weeks ago, it was about $80, aginst AOS 7142 $229.29.

Different points are,

- Tank material is different. AOS uses polycarbonate or acryl, JH-720 uses polypropylene.
- JH-720 does not have silver stick.
- JH-720's resin in cartridge is less than AOS.
- JH-720 has sound device, AOS does not have.
- Display is modified for Japanese market.
- Body color.

Customer Review: It Works for Me Most of the Time!
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this unit about a year ago because of the low humidity. I use it year round most of the time. When I first purchased it, it was pretty quiet. But then it started making gulping and glugging noises after about a few weeks of using it. I decided to stick it out. It seems to be intermittent with the noises. Sometimes it is better then others....but if you are a light sleeper and are easily bothered by noises at night then this isn't for you. Most of the time I can sleep through it, but I do recall hearing it sometimes during the night if I am not sleeping well. I don't think the humidity gauge is all that accurate. I have other units that read humidity as well and this units is usually below what the other one is reading. It does make a difference in the air and the bottom line that is what counts. Every once in a while it tries to tell me it is out of water when I just filled the water reservoir. I usually fix the problem by turning it off a couple of times and waiting a few minutes in between until it decides it wants to cooperate with me. A few times it just didn't want to turn on. But I figure all machines in the price range will probably be just as big of a pain as this one has for me. I only have to fill it once in the morning and once at night. Hope this review will be helpful for others!

Customer Review: Works as described for those WITHOUT hard water.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first humidifier after previously living in California, and then moving to Chicago where the humidity level during winter is horrid.

I read all the reviews and honestly was expecting the worst, virtually no humidifier got any decent reviews and you'd think this $200 model was a PoS based on the poor feedback.

All I can say is folks, if you have HARD WATER, do NOT buy this model. Seems pretty simple right? Yet everyone buys it anyone, complains, and rates it down. This seems to happen on most units, short of those with manufacturing defects.

I've been running it for the last week after buying it at BB&B (was paranoid about having to return it, the discount from their coupon didn't hurt either as it was cheaper than amazon), and it's been running flawlessly since I bought it through every night and some evenings keeping humidity around 40-50%.

I did let the mineral filter soak for the recommended 24hrs, and this is also running off city water in a large hi-rise.

All the features like the automatic mode, and the 'warm mist' seem to work just fine, and the unit looks great (ie. doesn't look like a white and clear blue eyesore), plus takes up very little space.

Recommended if you have good quality water.

Customer Review: Best Humidifier I Have Tried
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been using wick-based humidifiers for the past few years in the bedroom. Last year I noticed every morning when I woke and I used the humidifier, I was constantly congested. I stopped using it and looked for another type, leery of vaporizer types because of past experience with white dust.

I found this AOS 7142....pricey, and I was worried about white dust...but I liked the concept of the silver bar to inhibit bacteria growth and the demineralization cartridge to minimize dust.

I have been very impressed so far. No lung congestion. No white dust....I live in the Dallas area.

Pros: effective, silent, maintained 600 ft bedroom at 50%; choice of warm mist (I think this setting works better, but more $$ to operate) or cold mist, styling, controls, full tank at full blast lasted about 14 hours.

Cons: filling water tank; it has a handle to carry water container back to unit, but none on the other side to hold the container when filling it....and it gets heavy. Plus the container cannot stand by itself upside down and tips over.

If it wasn't for this latter design flaw, I would give it 5 stars, but good enough to make me buy another one for my home office.

Customer Review: a good ultrasonic
Summary: 4 Stars

First off, this unit does not have a 3.5 gallon capacity. Its really
just shy of a 2 gallon capacity (perhaps 2 full gallons if you removed
the filter cartridge that sticks into the water tank).

This unit puts out a good volume of mist at a high rate and does it
quietly. It's about twice as fast as my other (older) unit and
quieter to boot. The nozzle can spray in two directions, which
I find helps distribute the mist into the air better.

I don't use this with hard water -- if you plan on using hard water
I just wouldn't use an ultrasonic humidifier, get one of the wicking
humidifiers.

The water reservoir has a sturdy handle that is nice for carrying
when its full. However, a couple negatives for me are that the
tapering of the reservoir make it look unstable when you're filling
it (haven't had it fall over though). Also, I keep this up on a
dresser, and its hard to put the full reservoir (which is heavy)
back onto the unit. That would be less of an issue if kept on a
table or floor.

Overall, I'm happy with this unit and its been running almost
continuously this winter.
