Customer Review: Absolute waste of money, save yourself the frustration

I purchased this item 2 years ago. After about 3 nights of use it began leaking all over the place. After days of frustrating calls to their customer service department they talked me into buying a replacement filter cartridge ($30)- no replacement or warranty. I waited 2 weeks, got the cartridge, replaced it, got it working and it leaked gallons. Again, after days of arguing, I finally got a person who agreed to send me a new unit. I received it, and I got 3 nights of use and though it did not leak this time, it would not create mist on night 3- did not work. Unit monitor kept saying it needed cleaning. I called again, and they sent me yet again another cartridge, I replaced it, got one night and then nothing. I put it in the garage and let it sit there. Today I took it out, replaced the cartrige yet again and of course it did not work. In frustration, I am writing this note. This thing costs $200.00!!!!! We purchased a $25 kid's eeephant humidifier a year ago and it has never stopped working.Customer Review: It works as great as it looks, but with design flaws...

I only allow high-tech looking appliances in my house and this Korean-made machine meets that criterion w/ flying colors. My water is very hard (got a neutralizer system) and I see no white dust, just use distilled water if you have concern in this field. But this unit has its own share of design flaws: 1) When you lift up the empty water tank, water drips, have a towel ready. 2) As you fill it in your bathtub, there is no good way to stabilize it & its base (which would normally be its top) is not flat, disaster is prone to happen. 3) The 2-week maintenance schedule is a lil' much. 4) The EZ Cal pack is sufficient for 2 cleanings yet there's no easy way to pour out only 1/2 pack. 5) I need to refill this tank once every 2-3 days and my room is a mere 150 sq.ft. (8' ceiling) w/ a normal RH of 30~35% (desired RH is 40~45%). 6) Do you have a place to place this at the optimal recommended height of 36" or higher? Well, there isn't much that I can say that is good about this humidifier.
Pros:
1. Extremely quiet. You have to put your ear up to it to barely hear it.
2. Nice controls, displays and is easy to use.
3. Sort of easy to fill.
4. No white dust for me.
5. Watching the mist in the air is mildly fun for the first few minutes.
Cons:
1. Doesn't humidify, period. When I started it, it said 29%. Three days later it still says 29%. An external hygrometer went up a couple of percent, that's it. I had to refill it 3 times a day, so I don't know where all of the water is going. Oh, this is in a small bedroom also.
2. Some water is always spilled when refilling, so keep a towel around.
3. It can't be placed on the floor. It has to be three feet in the air according to the directions.
It's going to be returned tomorrow.

This review is for the product itself and not the supplier. The supplier got it out to me very fast. The product has to be cleaned too often. The filter must be changed more often than the manufacturer says to keep down the emissions. If you use it period, 24/7 or 6 hours at night, it has to be cleaned often. It emits a white powder which I believe is calcium all over everything within 10 feet, be it the tv, dresser, hardwood floors etc. I have it set upon a stool aboaut 3-4 feet high but the steam goes up and what goes up must come down. White powder all over everthing. So, while it had great reviews and that is the reason I purchased it, I would not have bought it had I known about the emissions. The positive side of the unit, is that it does help me to wake up with a less-than-normal sore throat from allergies. That is good, so I use it anyway. I just wish it did not have all the emissions of white powder.
