Customer Review: wasted my money

I used it very occasionally around the shop just to blow dust off things. Compared to an Emglo of similar capacity this unit takes longer to recharge. Air leaks guarantee more frequent recharging. But, for the price, I was happy enough.
Then I tried to use a small brad nailer. The cut in pressure was too low to fully drive the small brads I was using, so I made the mistake of trying to adjust the cut in pressure upwards, as shown in the manual, by turning an adjusting screw. That was the end for the pressure control. After that it would power the compressor up to its full pressure, then quickly leak all the air until the unit would have to turn on again. A valve on the pressure control had failed. This was the week after one year after I bought the unit, i.e. the unit was just out of warranty.
I thought I'd take the pressure control off the the thing and buy a new control. This is an incredibly weirdly assembled unit. To get the control off the entire unit needed to be disassembled, tanks separated from the frame, pipes disconnected, etc. I doubt if I will be able to put it together again. The bolts that hold the pressure control in place also hold the control together, so when you remove it the control springs apart and you have a number of small parts and several springs all over the place. The twin air tanks are held on to the frame with four gear clamps, the type you use on polyethylene plastic plumbing pipe to make connections. I've only seen a construction technique like this in a haywire home shop Rube Goldberg experimental dohickey. One bolt hole that will have to hold the new control has stripped threads. Somehow, three bolts with good threads held the pressure until now, but I'm sure that when I try to reinstall I'll need to do something to make that fourth bolt work. I lost confidence in the entire unit after this close look at the design and the quality of some of the materials used. The assembly is preposterous. What look like soundly made parts, the tanks and the compressor, are just wasted.
I ordered a Makita compressor from Amazon today. I hate throwing something this new into the garbage, although that is where it belongs. Just a bit more attention to design which would have added just a bit more to the cost at the factory prior to starting up the assembly line to pump this garbage out, could have resulted in the production of some good compressors, but as is, I would advise others not to touch this thing even with a two hundred foot pole, unless all you want is to pretend you've got a tool there and all you need is some air to blow dust or inflate tires.
