Tools and Hardware Reviews of Powerbuilt 648796 Honda Crankcase Pulley Removal ToolCustomer Review: Worth its weight in gold Summary: 5 Stars
This tool is great, without it there is no way I would have gotten the crank bolt out with regular hand tools. Other than buying a $200 impact wrench.... I set it up just as described in a honda Forum, and it cracked loose in 10 seconds. You will HAVE to use a peice of 18" pipe on a 1/2" breaker bar for this to work, and a jack stand for support, but worth every penny to do the timing belt in my Accord. Do not hesitate to buy this, quality is excellent, Amazon shipped it lightening fast. EXCELLENT
Customer Review: Far cheaper in price, not quality, compared to Honda's version. Summary: 5 Stars
Bought it because it was under $20 bucks and Honda's version was almost $100. Since it's a tool and not a part actually going into the engine, I decided to go the cheaper route and it paid off. This tool is solid and held the crank pulley on my 1999 Odyssey without a problem.
I was able to do the timing belt job without any problems from the dreaded crank pulley thanks to this tool. Do not hesitate to buy it, it will work just fine. It will not twist, deform or break. It is SOLID.
Customer Review: Works perfectly. Summary: 5 Stars
When trying to remove my crank pulley, I first attempted to use a wrench the braces itself against the teeth on your flywheel, while you reef on the bolt holding your crank pulley. I broke the wrench. It was complete piece of garbage.
Then I bought this tool, and the bolt came out easily. You can use this to hold your crank still while you take the bolts out of your flywheel too. However, that took 2 guys for me, cause then your breaker bars have to be about 2 feet apart.
Customer Review: Good tool Summary: 5 Stars
This tool worked great. You will need a 1/2" drive breaker bar (at least 20" long) to hold this tool. When using the breaker bar on the bolt make sure you support the extension with a jack or some sort otherwise you could bend both the extension bar and the bolt. Also you will probably want a 20" extension bar for the bolt instead of 2 10" extension bars, and a really big pipe (5-10 feet long) for extra torque, as these bolts are on at least 250 ft/lbs (spec) and commonly much more.
Customer Review: Nice Product Summary: 5 Stars
The crank pulley removal tool was a nice purchase. I have a 2000 Honda Civic with the D17 motor. I will probably use it once so I tried every trick in the book to remove it. I broke two chain wrenches trying to hold the pulley and one socket. Once I received it in the mail it took about 2 minutes to get the thing off. I think the only other way is to use an impact gun that's rated to around 800 lbs/ft. Check out the video on youtube for a decent how-to on the timing belt removal.
