Tools and Hardware Reviews of Alsons 654CPK Standard Style Shower Head, ChromeCustomer Review: I really, really, really wanted this to work Summary: 2 Stars
I saw this head in a store and as an impulse buy decided to try it out. It looked sleek, simple and well made and for the price I could not argue to give it a go.
When I got home, I installed it and gave it a run. The spray was definitely nice: steamed quickly and had great pressure. However, I bought the head to hopefully save on some water and energy, and I noticed the rubber gasket that maintains the seal between the ball bearing and the head (to allow it to turn directionally) was dislodged and leaking water.
I looked up the manufacturer online and they very quickly and efficiently sent me a replacement head. I had it within three days of my initial email, which impressed me. Now I really, really wanted it to work.
I checked the new head that came in the mail and the gasket was in place! I was thrilled that this great shower head was going to finally work. I installed it and gave it a run. Within a minute, the same gasket slipped and water was again spilling out the side of the head. It's not that bothersome, I guess, but when you're looking to conserve resources it really doesn't make sense to have heated water spilling out the side of the shower head onto the shower floor. I really, really wanted this shower head to work.
Pros: It looks great, solid construction, is easy to install, and the company was very responsive and helpful
Cons: It doesn't work (and I really, really, really want it to.)
Customer Review: Not as good as it used to be. Summary: 3 Stars
A couple years ago I picked up a shower head of this exact style at a local hardware store; it was perfect. However, it recently broke; I figured it's only a couple of bucks so why not just buy a new one. My previous shower head was manufactured by Resources Conservation, Inc; I guess they sold their business to Alsons a while ago. So I found this shower head and ordered it figuring it would be identical; while they might look the same, the performance was lacking. The old one had a very strong, concentrated, consistent spray; this one is less powerful, has a wider spray, and the coverage in the middle of the spray is terrible (the spray is basically like a ring rather than a disc). I ended up taking longer showers because it was harder to rinse off soap and shampoo with the weaker spray. I have since bought a more traditional shower head that gives better coverage, but I still long for the raw power of the Incredible Head Power Showerhead. I suppose it's possible I got a defective product; again it's only a couple of bucks, so I didn't bother looking for a refund and I might try buying another one just to be sure.
Customer Review: Very effective Summary: 5 Stars
My home has low water pressure and the force of the shower, when I first used it, was very disappointing. This showerhead concentrates the flow to make it feel more forceful.
One important note: It feels more forceful ONLY close to the showerhead. Further away it dissipates and is almost mist-like in its fineness. Because my shower arm is so high on the wall, by the time the water reached me, it was taking effort to get my long thick hair thoroughly soaked and more difficult to rinse of shampoo.
However, there is an EASY solution: I called the manuafacturer and they recommended a hinged, adjustable shower arm extension. I immediately purchased one (not their brand) at a local hardware store for around $30.00. Both the shower arm and shower head were very easy to install. It's now positioned close to my head and I love it. It's quite effective at concentrating the flow, the button for turning off the flow temporarily while saoping up or shaving is a convenient feature and I am pleased to use a showerhead that conserves water.
Customer Review: Are you serious about wanting to save water? Summary: 5 Stars
This device easily screws into your showerhead and helps save an incredible amount of water. Start the shower by getting the water temperature just right, get yourself wet, and then slide the button to the "trickle" setting. Soap up, and use the "trickle" of water to keep the soap wet, as needed. When you are done soaping up, slide the button back to allow the water to flow at the proper temperature, allowing you to rinse off. You can repeat the process as many times as needed. Where's the water saving? The shower water doesn't run and run the full lenghth of your shower time; it just runs to first get you wet, and then to rinse you off. What are the savings of water? In my experience, I only use about 1/3 the water I would use without the device. The Incredible Head Power Shower Showerhead is inexpensive, easy to install, and very effective! One caution: Make sure that you buy the model that says "with soap-up button for navy showers." -Gary Ciesla, Highland Falls, NY
Customer Review: Great spray but hard to aim Summary: 4 Stars
Bought this to replace a cheap plastic 2.5GPM showerhead that felt like a trickle. This unit has the same 2.5GPM flow but is much better at rinsing off the soap and shampoo, which I am very particular about. Also, Alsons is a Michigan company so I like that (even though the product was manufactured in China, bleh). The only fault I could find with this head is that it is very hard to aim. We have a small stand-up shower stall and I prefer to point the stream away while I am soaping up... but there is a lot of friction in this head and not much area to grab. Maybe I should have gone for the on/off version but it did not quality for FSSS! Alsons 652 C Incredible Head Power Shower Head, Chrome
