Tools and Hardware Reviews of Clearmax Lightweight Pressurized Steam Cleaner and Sanitizer (Blue)Customer Review: Not a magic wand, but a very useful tool Summary: 5 Stars
I am not a good house cleaner and I do not like using chemicals, so when I read about steam cleaning, I jumped on it - but cautiously, i.e. I bought the cheapest with good reviews.
First I started with a steam mop and liked it and now I got the little handheld steam cleaner. Many people who give this little tool bad reviews must not use it right, may have a defective product or had too big expectations.
It is certainly not a tool to clean huge areas quickly. Though windows go fast and mine got cleaner than with any other method I tried. What I really love this tool for are the little corners and crevices you usually cannot get to.
Around toilets, patio doors bottoms, in the kitchen about everywhere there is some gap. It is quite amazing to see how much junk this steam blows out. Of course this is a small tool, it does not have very high power and a small tank, so be prepared to refill and refill and refill. I still prefer this method to scrubbing with anything else and eventually I will probably invest in a bigger tool.
I wish the instructions would be a little bit more detailed. I usually do not like huge manuals, but this is just three pages and does not tell you anything how to use the attachments. In my package there was also one attachment missing and now I have to return it and wait for a new one. I would have preferred to get just the missing piece.
But I am happy with it, it looks like it is pretty sturdy and it is certainly very useful.
Customer Review: Excellent handheld steam cleaner Summary: 5 Stars
Based on the sheer number of positive reviews by other users I went ahead and ordered two, one for me and one for my 73 year old mother. This is an excellent steam cleaner for the price. I am ashamed to admit this but 2 days after I got this product the faucet handle on my kitchen sink broke and my husband was forced to go into the terrible underworld of the double wide cabinet below the kitchen sinks to replace the whole fixture. As I am not much for stooping or crawling at 53, and scrubbing is not my favorite hobby, it was sorely in need of cleaning. (8 years of accumulated black gunk that I don't EVEN want to know what it was from...... and boy was it dried on good) (GAG)
This baby did the job, in two fillings with steam to spare including my steaming the pipes garbage disposal and all three walls behind the plumbing. I was so excited I immediately refilled it and chased the grunge away in the bathroom around the toilet, (YUCK I HATE CLEANING THERE!!!) a huge plus not to have to hug the porcelain bowl, because it was easy to get at with the extension provided. I proceeded to breeze thru and baseboard corners where I can never get it quite clean. I haven't tried the floor attachment, but for the money, you can count on this item to cut the YUCK factor of any small steam job. Thanks for the great price too!
Customer Review: Won't do it for you while you read... Summary: 5 Stars
This steamer will not do the cleaning for you while you read a book. Darn.
Other than that, though, it's a great little tool. I found that--like most other tools--it exceeded expectations on some jobs and didn't do well on others.
The steam jet is quite strong. It will blow dust, hair, and general crud out of hard-to-clean places like the inside of a baseboard heater. It will soften gooey or oily crud so that you can wipe it up. I like using a Magic Eraser with the steamer, since neither involves using chemical cleaners.
Be warned that some dirt--like the dust in the abovementioned baseboard heater--doesn't smell nice at all, and stirring it up while heating it will give you a good reason to open several windows. If I were going to clean a garbage pail or catbox with this thing, I'd definitely do it outdoors.
One of the best surprises was the streak-free glass cleaning. Wow! My mirrors and black glass oven door look new.
It didn't seem to do much to help clean oven racks.
The instructions are pretty terse. At first, I was quite frustrated in getting the top off--unscrewing didn't seem to be working. Finally, I tried spinning the top counterclockwise, and that worked fine.
I think it's a great cleaning tool and well worth the price.
Customer Review: design problems with steamer Summary: 2 Stars
Overall too much swival movement to clean things well. Poor design. Safety issue with screw on lid.
I have used small portable steam cleaners for years. I read the reviews and based upon them I ordered this product.
I found the quality to be lacking in this product. The screw on lid is difficult to unscrew and get off the machine and when screwing it back on you do not when it is completely on which is a safety issue for me. The lid continues to turn even when screwed on so how do you tell if it is on tight enough? There does not seem to be a way to stop the tip from swivalling when steaming. I want to scrub with the small brush the rungs on the toaster oven rack but the stupid swival prevents that by constantly moving when you try to use the scrub brush. Steam pressure is good. Also, a three minute wait before you can add more water is too long when the tank is so small.
I will try to return the item and buy a different steamer tomorrow. I spoke with the company rep today to arrange a return and found them to be a very reputable company to deal with. I would have no hesitation to purchase from them again. They also took seriously my safety concerns.
Customer Review: Excellent Steamer - and a Great Buy Summary: 5 Stars
Get this steamer if you want a solid, well-made product. The only thing wrong I've found so far is difficulty believing that a product of this quality can be purchased for just 20 bucks. It feels good in the hand, heats up quickly, delivers nice hard blasts of steam without spitting, and comes with quality accessories for a variety of applications. You can get the grime out of little places with the pointy nozzle, scrub things with a brush head, and even clean grimy windows with the squeegee attachment. This unit uses high quality plastics where it makes sense (the body, the handle, nozzles) and metal where it is appropriate (steamer core, cap, parts of nozzles). The electrical cord is thick and obviously built to take abuse, the body has a solid metal inner core, there is a sturdy threaded cap with a metal insert, the outlet has dual neoprene O-rings to seal the steam path from core to nozzle and a positive lock system so the nozzles don't pop off. I am frankly amazed at the quality in this unit and would recommend it to anyone who wants a handy little steamer that delivers the steam and won't break. Get one before the company comes to it's senses and starts charging what it's worth.
