I purchased the cordless edger because I wanted something that was quick and easy to use on those small trimming jobs, like around the landscaping everytime I mow the lawn. I also wanted it for the edging feature.
I have a gas trimmer edger, but it is just to big and bulky and too much effort for those small jobs when I only have 5 or 10 minutes of edging to do. It seems like it takes more time to get started and to do the job. I also find it very difficult to edge with.
I was very excited the day I recieved my YardStick. I immediately took it out of the box and tried it out on my back porch in the dark at 9 pm. Satisfied, I installed the charger/hanging bracket in my garage that night. Two days later I mowed my lawn and pulled out the YardStick. It was great. I did all the trimming and then moved on to edging around my driveway, patio and sidewalks. The edging was pretty good, but it really couldn't handle some of the spots that were way overgrown (I didn't expect it to be able to do that job.) The unit itself is a little heavy, but that is because of the 2 large batteries that give it a longer usage time between recharging. I used it that time for around 45 minutes and the battery was still as strong as when I started.
Now for the bad part....The next week I mowed my lawn and pulled out my YardStick to do my trimming and edging. I got the trimming done in 5 minutes and was working on the edging when the unit stopped suddenly. It didn't slow down or didn't make any odd sounds, it just stopped. I thought that was odd for the battery to give out after only about 10 minutes or so of use, so I thought that maybe I didn't have it seated properly on the charger and it wasn't fully charged. So...I put it back on the charger and tried again the next day. Dead. Nothing. The charger showed that the unit was fully charged, but I didn't even get a hum. I pulled out the instuction book and found that the problem could be a blown fuse. I took the unit apart and the fuse looked fine, but I replaced it anyway. I also checked the connections to the battery. All seemed tight, but the unit was still dead. It seems like the problem might be in the power button or switch itself, but I cannot access that part of the unit. I called the service department the next day and they said I would have to ship it back to them at my own expense and they would repair it and ship it back. Unfortuneately I do not have a box to fit it in and it is probably expensive to ship due to it's weight. I have not shipped it yet but will probably take care of that this weekend. Hopefully it will be repaired or replaced and I won't have anymore problems, because I really liked the unit.
I will try to update this review in the future, but in the meantime, if you are looking at purchasing this unit, it is up to you, but I like it so much that I would take the chance even though I had this problem. Good luck.
