Tools and Hardware Reviews of American Hawks Explorer II Metal Detector LCD Display Type of Object and Depth

Customer Review: Piece of junk
Summary: 1 Stars

I ordered two different metal detectors at the same time hoping that at least one of them would be good. Somehow, I recieved the same exact metal detector from two different sellers.

this was the other one:

My wife and I have taken these out about six times and the only time that we have managed to find the source of the beep was when we were joined by a friend who had a cheap kids metal detector that he paid $20.00 for. Most metal detectors have a constant tone that changes when it detects metal. This thing just beeps once, then after five minutes of trying to re-find the spot where it beeped I might be able to start the long digging process. If my friend brings his detector over we usually find the source of the beep. If not, no luck. I recently took them to the beach thinking that surely I would be able to locate the object in sand and that was when the true extent of these detector's worthlessness. Four different times I found an area where the beep went off and it kept telling me that the object was 5 inches down. Four times I dug down about two feet and stuck the detector all the way down only to be told that the object was still 5 inches down.

Bottom line: if you are new to metal detecting, buy a cheap kids detector. If you want to do some serious detecting opt for a trusted brand. They are expensive, but they pay for themselves if you take them out often enough.

Customer Review: DO NOT buy this.

I just got into metal detecting and coin hunting and figured I would invest in a detector, the specs sounded appealing so I bought this and soon as I opened the box I was disapointed. the box has no "American Hawks" on it just a poorly printed "Digital metal detector" with "jewelry" spelled as "jewelry". Beyond the sketchy box, I opened it to find a decent bag, bent earphones that were incredibly uncomfortable and the detector. the construction of it is ok at best, the metal pole would bend/break fairly easily, I put some batteries in it and gave it a test by throwing some coins in the grass, it detected them but with poor accuracy. The depth feature wasn't accurate at all and is basically useless, based on it saying the change was five inches deep when it really was about 1cm away.

Overall, I would avoid this detector. for the same money you can find a nice Bounty hunter detector or similar.

Customer Review: try all metal mode
Summary: 5 Stars

As a high end but low cost metal detector I give this thing five stars. My daughter gave me this as birthday present several weeks ago and I enjoyed using it since then. It is very ease of use, and it DOES find what you are searching for (rings, coins, etc). I wanted to make one point:

Of course, this detector has the discrimination function which tells the difference between the various metals. It certainly helps you to avoid digging junk like pull tabs which are everywhere. It does work pretty good. To me, I suggest using "All Metal" mode. I found good stuff under this mode but couldn't under "Discriminatation" mode. I am pretty new to treasure hunting, so it is just suggestion based on my experience.

Customer Review: Nice starter digital metal detector

For the money the Falcon GC1020 is a best buy, low priced, "digital" metal detector. I won't go into all the various features but will tell you I did a lot of research. No... it's not a Fisher, Tesoro or Whites... but, hell it's not bad either and sells for hundreds less than the above named units with a digital readout. It does a good job at finding coins up to 6" down, and the discriminating works well. Construction is solid. I got mine as a package with a set of headphones and a carry bag for under $100.!
If you want a good, low cost detector with a digital readout to start out with, than this is the one. It just may give you the treasure hunting bug!

Customer Review: Product is VERY SUSPICIOUS

Received this today....First Alarm Bell rang when I opened the shipping box, pulled out the box and noticed that there was a statement on the box saying that it could be used to find "Jewellery". Um, do they mean Jewelry????? If you buy a product and they have a mistake that big on their product, something seems fishy. Second. There are no bar codes, product numbers, brand name or anything like that on the box. Simply says "digital metal detector". Seems very cheaply put together and almost like some one did this from their house. Did a search on "American Hawks" on google and found less than favorable reviews. I am returning immediately.
