I believe there is no metal detector out there that can accurately distinguish between all metals to a specific degree. By this I mean, when the unit states it's a nickel I find a matchbox car. But hey it still found metal. There is more learning to do with using the different modes, but as we use it more it will become easier to understand and detect between the different audibles. With that in mind, I can honestly say we are extremely pleased American Hawks Explorer II. I am quite impressed with the depth reading - very accurate. After using this one day, we found about 50 matchbox cars, very old toothpaste tube, lots of pennies and old hand tools.
The headphones are very comfortable and the carrying bag is sturdy and makes it easy to transport the metal detector anywhere. Excellent value for the price.
Just a note: remember to remove all your jewelry since it will interfere with the readings.

Pure Junk! The Main frame that screws onto the other frame will not stay together. This item is totally useless, and with having to go through all the hassle with returning it and getting only a fraction of my money back, I thought I would save others the MISERY-DO NOT ORDER from American Hawks product line. I say it again, DO NOT ORDER from American Hawks product line. The item is extremely cheap and the postage was totally outrageous. I spent close to $80.00 for this piece of junk--save your money for a decent metal detector. This metal detector reminds of the same kind of junk you would buy at one of those charlatan-snake oil salesman tent sales. Like the old adage goes, you get what you pay for. My mom bought this for our new baby girl. There is no interference for me. The sound is very clear. The vision is very sharp. Night vision is a little dark. I recommend this to other new parents.
