Tools and Hardware Reviews of Electrically Conductive Wire Glue BondsCustomer Review: Wire Glue Works Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this item to use for "soldering" electrical connections where true soldering was prohibitive due to the heat associated with it. This product is basically 100% carbon powder suspended in a glue product. It must be stirred up very well before each use. It's disappointing that the glue product is SO fluid; it flows like crazy and can make a heck of a mess if you're not careful. It takes at least 24 hours for the glue to dry completely, but by golly it's conductive!! For connections that are apt to be stressed due to movement, I advise finally sealing the connection with epoxy.
Haven't found a better product for "heatless soldering" that is so versatile.
Customer Review: Works as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I've used it for soldering solar cell tabs on and soldering them together and it works great. It's easy to be messy with it so you've got to be careful when applying it, but it's also easy to clean off before it dries, so if you make a mess you can wipe and re-apply.
The one annoying this is that it takes about two or three minutes before the bond starts to really hold, so you either have to hold the wires in place or use some clips or something for those first few minutes. After that it seems to hold pretty well right away as long as you aren't pulling at the wires or something. After giving it a day to dry it holds very strong.
Customer Review: Useless for anything but the simplest of wiring Summary: 1 Stars
Even fully mixed, it has the consistency of water so you need to pour out some of the "glue" into a container and let it set for a few hours so you have a paste. But the paste has no adhesive quality to it like an epoxy, so you will need to have something holding the wiring in place. It dries like charcoal, and would need to be reinforces with a stronger epoxy after it dries.
I tried to connect a 7.2 volt battery to a deans connector and even after reinforcing the dried charcoal, a few minutes of voltage and the "glue" started to come off.
Lesson learned: get better at soldering
Customer Review: Excellent Resistance Summary: 1 Stars
Bought this to bridge some cut tracks on a potentiometer. Seemed to work great, once I had thought of using a thin strand of wire to apply it, however it is far to resistive, measuring 15kohm over a a few mm. This will alter the value of the pot, rendering it useless. If it wasn't for that it would have been perfect, looks like it's back too the super conductive silver paint. And as others have said, Glue???????? Hmmm... not quite
Don't really see what I could ever use it for!!
Customer Review: Great for special situations - does things solder can't Summary: 5 Stars
This is great stuff when you need to solder something that won't solder - for example onto battery tabs, which really need to be welded. Solder won't stick, but this stuff will.
It's not a replacement for solder in most applications, but it's a critical part of my soldering kit for times when solder won't do the job. Highly recommended.
Be aware - it doesn't seem to conduct until it's dried a bit, but then it works.
