Tools and Hardware Reviews of American Standard 7881.712.002 Hampton Two-Porcelain Lever Handle Widespread Faucet with Metal Speed Connect Pop Up Drain, Polished ChromeCustomer Review: Althought "Victorian" style, this is a pretty faucet for any bathroom Summary: 4 Stars
We were looking for a chrome faucet with porcelain handles. We found this to have the nicest quality for the price. This is a nice faucet from American Standard. Am Std list this as "Victorian" style, however, this works well in our transitional bathroom. The chrome finish matches our other Delta chrome hardware finishes.
Pros:
a. The chrome is bright and the porcelain handles are comfortable.
b. Easy to install. The first faucet took me about 30 mins due to cabinetry challenges unrelated to the faucet (big hands, small vanity space). The second faucet took me about 10 mins. The speed connect drain is awesome and saves time on the installation.
c. Smooth operation, especially the drain. So far no squeaks or other issues after a month.
d. Nearly infinitely adjustable handle positions. Note: use a ball point pen to push out the gray adjustment "thingy" from the top. When you look at it, you'll know that I am talking about.
e. The drain assembly comes with a crush-able foam O-ring so you dont need plumber's putty. My first time using this, but it seems to work. Just be careful that as you are tightening the drain assembly from the bottom, that you don't move the drain around too much otherwise the foam ring, which is not snug fitting, will move around and get crimped. Alternatively, you could just use putty.
Cons:
a. The picture doesn't show a gap above the escutcheon plate and below the turning knob. However, if you install it per the instructions, there is a little gap about 1/8". Most people wouldn't notice it, but since I installed it myself, so I notice the gap.
b. The instruction lists two rubber O-rings and a wrench that do not come in the package. The rubber O-rings are not necessary, however the wrench would have been handy. If you are installing this yourself into an existing vanity where the vanity top does not come off, I strongly recommend that you have a right angle (90 degree) wrenches available before you start.
Home Depot sells a American Standard Williamsburg model faucet that looks just like this faucet, but the HD version has more plastic parts - lower drain assembly, internal handles parts and the white handles. The handle assembly is slight different shape. Otherwise the faucet body and other brass assemblies are exact the same parts. If you have a closed vanity, none of the differences are noticeable except for the quality of the white handles.
