Tools and Hardware Reviews of Amerimax Home Products 85270BX Gutter ScreenCustomer Review: After much research... and now real life experience: IT WORKS!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We live on a wooded secluded lot with many 40ft plus trees around. Every few months or so, especially during thunderstorms, we found our gutters overflowing because the pipes are clogged with leaves and debris. This can do much damage to fascia and siding and the roofing even.
So we set out to find a working gutter screen solution. We read and surfed and read and finally found that the only type that people seemed unanimous about was that the diamond shaped gutter screen of this brand worked (consumer reports also suggested it). I checked the home improvement stores and found it to be very expensive. Much to our surprise we found it dirt cheap on Amazon and ordered enough , and some, to do our house.
Installation was literally a snap as these snap on. The only real work is measuring the end pieces and cutting them (a sharp hobby knife or scissors will do).
Very easy to install and after many moons of use we have found our gutters clean and functioning! No more muck to scoop out!!
Customer Review: Good product... but Summary: 3 Stars
Gutter Screen performance depends on what you are trying to filter out. If you have trees that drop tiny berrys- they get through these guards. Leaves from oak and maple trees may get caught in these guards and may create a clog on top of the guards which you will need to clean. Tree seed pods will tend to get stuck in these guards too. There is a more current version available that has a fine mesh screen adhered to the outside which may eliminate some of the clogging- take a look at those too. These are well made and lock onto the (aluminum) gutter edge. Screws may be needed to really secure that connection. They can be easily trimmed with tin snips. The upper part of the guard slides up and under the roof shingles- do this on a sunny day in case you need to unstick the shingles from the roof water barrier material. I give these a provisional buy rating.
Customer Review: Holes could be a bit smaller Summary: 2 Stars
I bought 280' worth of these from Lowe's a few years ago. They do very well at keeping leaves, twigs, and larger objects out of the gutter, but maple tree seeds(or as some people call them "helicopters") will drop into the diamond shaped holes part way causing them to stand straight up . Eventually most will break in half causing the bottom half to drop into the gutter.------I later tryed the same product that had a mesh screen glued to it ---that didn't work either ---the screen eventually came loose if it was installed screen side up and the screen sagged too much if it was installed screen side down.
Customer Review: Keep Looking Summary: 1 Stars
If you are looking for a solution to overflowing gutters, keep looking. I will echo what both reviewers have stated. Easy installation, that snap right in. A few cuts with scissors and they are in place. I installed these in spring and 1 month later when the summer heat began, they had already sagged and dropped into the gutter. I am up on the ladder this morning, cleaning out more gunk and trying to reattach these some how in order to get some usefulness out of the the money I have wasted.
Customer Review: Very Disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
I bought a large box of these at Home Depot and installed them in early spring and by late summer, the heat had caused them to sag in the gutter allowing debris to get caught and stop water from draining.
Would be better if they were made of aluminum.
