I have a similar hose reel wall system made by Sears which is now approximately 20 years young and still going strong. I wanted a second hose reel for our new summerhouse. Unfortunately, the Sears Craftsman hose reel is only a memory and is no longer made. So, the Ames is the closest thing I could find to it in design, quality, and workmanship. On a side note, Ames is a great American name in hardware. They have been around for a couple hundred years or more starting out as the Ames Shovel Company in Easton, Massachusetts. Being somewhat of a history buff, I often wondered how a small farming town like Easton in the 1800s' could have a Civil War Memorial with the incredible high number of soldiers killed in action on it, 49 in all. Well, as it turns out, most of the enlisted and drafted soldiers from Easton worked for the Ames Shovel Co. and lived in Easton at the time of induction into the Union Army. Ames was an very large company in the 1800s' employing hundreds of men. They made every shovel that could be had in all of the US at that time. And that's when a shovel and the man behind it did all the digging-no big rigs back then. What's this all mean? Well, the Ames Company is a real slice of Americana. The hose reel is assembled and made in the U.S.A. by a long term American Company. A truly rare occurrence! But I digress.
The hose reel assembly appears rugged and built to last just like the Sears Craftsman. The only problem, it does not come fully assembled as the Sears model did. Be prepared to give up a couple of hours putting this thing together. I counted 49 pieces in all. Don't panic! That includes the hardware to screw this thing together. I will update on occasion to let you know how this thing holds up. Right now, I am giving it 5 stars.
Well, day one after instillation and I still like it. It does leak a few drops, but so did the Sears model-no big deal. It looks good and the hose reel works flawlessly. I am thinking this will make a super fire extinguisher, as it's just outside the side door and has a 100 feet of hose on it. To bad it won't work in the winter cold. I still give it 5 stars.
