Tools and Hardware Reviews of Aqua Globes AG011706 Glass Plant Watering Bulbs, 2-Pack

Customer Review: Not so great
Summary: 2 Stars

I got 4 Aqua globes with the high hopes that they would work adequately. I did everything the instructions asked of me. When I got back after two weeks I noticed that two of the globes had not emptied into the plant. Not so great. The two plants deprived of water barely managed to survive their ordeal.

Since the globes performed so marginally I decided to create my own Aqua Globe system using a one liter soda bottle, some silicon sealant and some pieces of Plexi-glas tubing. I made it much the same way as an Aqua Globe. The difference being the ability to prime my watering unit by squeezing it. Something you can't do with a glass ball. Also, the one liter capacity of my "Soda Globe" provided far more water than the meager amount contained in the glass bulb. I think I need to make more of my own watering units, or just devise a wicking/capillary action mechanism.

Overall, the Aqua Globes are aesthetically pleasing which is why I gave this < 50 percent-dependable product a middle of the road rating.

Customer Review: Very fragile!
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought a couple boxes of these as Christmas gifts. One globe was slightly broken on arrival and another broke after I had given it (it basically broke when the gift was unwrapped, which made me feel awful). It was only tapped slightly against another hard object and the stem shattered. I've come to the conclusion that these Aqua Globes are extremely fragile. I actually didn't give the second box of globes as a gift after seeing what happened to the first, because I think they would have been much too fragile for my elderly aunt to have handled and used. I don't know how well they work if you can finally get them filled and in a flower pot, but I really would think twice about buying them again. They are beautiful, but too fragile to be very useful, I think.

(Not as important, but they also come in really cheesy "As Seen On TV" packaging. I actually removed them from the original box to give as gifts, because the box seemed so tacky and the globes themselves are actually very artistic and attractive.)

Customer Review: A Couple of Quirks...but they work
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought six of these to water my large potted plants while we are gone in the summer. Once receiving them, I immediately tried them. I filled them with water, made the hole in the dirt first with something else, and inserted the globes. Water started leaving the globes quickly and within 10-15 minutes, the globes were empty! I was hoping water would stay in the globes long enough to water the plants for at least one week, and they were empty. I soon realized that your plants have to be saturated with water FIRST, then as the dirt around the globes dries, water is released from the globe. Another thing, dirt does get trapped in the stem sometimes. Overall, just make sure that your plants are watered very well before you insert the globes, then they will slowly release the water the plant needs. I've had comments on how pretty they are in the plants also. I think they do the job without having to ask your neighbor to come water your plants while you're gone.

Customer Review: Bulkier than I thought, but I like them
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased a pair of aqua globes from target in their as seen on TV section. Those globes are very dainty and light weight. I loved them. They water my plants for a good week or two depending on the plant and despite a little dirt getting in the bottom, they work just fine. My plants are saved!

Because I loved them so much I ordered 2 sets from amazon. What arrived was a much larger, thicker, bulkier version of the aqua globes. When filled with water they almost tip my small house plants over (the others didn't).
At first I was going to send them back but now I figure I will use them for some outdoor ferns I have in pots or for a large indoor tree I'd like to get.

Just a warning, if you need to water a small or medium house plant, the ones that you get from Amazon might not work. The ones you can get at a store are the proper ones for that.

Customer Review: just make a hole first!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a lot of different kinds of plants and can not always water them when I want-so I put the globes in most of them(you can not use them easily in small pots as the bulb can fall over).
It's been 3 wks and it's been great! The 2 plants I have had trouble with(usually overwatering) are the happiest. Now I can leave for a few days when it's hot out and not worry. I propped up two bulbs so then can "water" two of my bigger bonsai. You must use a stick(chopsticks work great) to make the hole, put the globe in and see if it gets plugged up. Remove the plug if needed and reinsert-push the dirt back down one the bulb is in place. I have two in two outside plants that are in full sun and it has worked, also (they get extra water when its hot-the bulbs seem to help them not dry out)
