Tools and Hardware Reviews of Ariante Torchiere Designer Floor LampCustomer Review: Looks okay but could not screw on the shade Summary: 2 Stars
Just opened the box and assembled the lamp, which went pretty well. There's a gap in the gold trim on the shade which I turned toward the wall.
Step No. 5 in the instructions says: "Unscrew the plastic locker from the socket and place the acrylic shade onto socket cup; then screw the plastic locker to secure the shade." However, when I unscrewed the plastic locker from the socket and tried to place the acrylic shade onto the socket cup, the plastic locker would not screw back on to secure the shade. I paid almost $13 plus delivery for the lamp. To ship it back would cost almost as much as the lamp and I need a lamp in my bedroom, so I put a 28-watt flourescent bulb (equal to 100 watt incandescent) into the socket and did not screw in the plastic locker. The lamp shade is whobbly, but I have it connected to the wall switch so I won't have to use the on-off switch on the lamp. It seems the space taken by the shade kept the plastic locker from connecting so that it could be screwed in. Without the shade in place, it screws in, however. Go figure!
I think the lamp looks okay, but with the loose lampshade, the lamp is not very stable.
Customer Review: You get what you pay for Summary: 3 Stars
These lamps are not really for anyone who is looking for quality aesthetics. As some of the bad reviews state, the following down-sides are important to note:
- The lamp bowl is cheap plastic and you should be grateful if they're symmetrical. In addition, the trim is not attached with glue or anything, so it comes off fairly easily and it doesn't quite go all the way around the bowl
- The lamp is short. If you're over 6' you'll be able to see into it without difficulty.
- The base is not quite as heavy as I would like to insure stability, but I haven't had any real problems. But if you have children or dogs, this might be an issue.
Having said that, if all you need is illumination without a serious desire for aesthetics or quality, then these seem like the lamps to get:
- It takes a 3-way bulb up to 100 watts
- It assembles fairly easily
- It seems reliable enough to do its primary job: provide light
Given the price of (currently) under $13, if illumination is all you need or care about, then I recommend the lamp.
Customer Review: Worth a lot more ! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this lamp for my very dark living room. It's wonderful. Since it uses up to a 100 watt bulb, it gives me all the light I need.
Now, I read the reviews only giving the lamp 1 or 2 stars...
1. The lamp IS sturdy if you take the time to put the poles together correctly. Each section of the pole has a small bump on it--line that bump up to the ridge in the pole above it, wiggle into place, then turn the pole slightly and it will lock into place.
2. As for the shade locking ring... if you look carefully , you will see that the ring actually has 2 parts--the inner tube and an outer ring. Remove from the lamp, put the shade in place, line the locking tube up with the center of the lamp and screw it down as far as you can--THEN, while holding the inner tube steady, simply screw down the RING. It's the ring part that holds the shade in place.
I will make a suggestion to the company to re-write the instructions to make the assembly a bit clearer.
Other than that--I LOVE my new lamp!!
Customer Review: Outstanding value Summary: 5 Stars
For less than $7, this lamp is an outstanding value. It's only slightly lower in quality than one I bought for five times as much.
Three good qualities: (1) The base and the lamp pole are extremely stable -- better than many lamps of this type. (2) The lamp will accept either standard or fluorescent light bulbs (those with a standard-bulb base), although some fluorescent bulbs will show over the top of the shade. (3) The plastic shade is thick enough to hide the bulb itself but thin enough to allow plenty of light to shine through; this lamp is therefore brighter than those that simply bounce light off the ceiling.
One bad quality: The plastic shade is just a tiny bit uneven on top, but that's not even noticeable unless you're looking very closely.
I have no idea how they can sell this lamp at such a low price, unless it's made by Oompah Loompahs.
Customer Review: Good deal Summary: 4 Stars
I was impressed with the heft of this lamp for the price. It's sturdy and, other than the thin, cheaply constructed plastic shade, is a great lamp for the price. The first one I received was defective because the locking cap wouldn't screw on to attach the shade, no matter what I tried. I wasn't sure if the fault was with the locking cap, the area it attched to or if it had something to do with the shoddy shade. But it was frustrating, to say the least. That same day I called onlinecomponents and they were wonderful! The sent me a replacement lamp within 10 days and did not require the non-functioning one be returned...saving me more shipping fees. I'd have gladly paid a bit more for a better quality, perhaps glass, shade though. But if you're looking for an inexpensive floor lamp, with 3-way lighting capabilities, this is a good deal.
