Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hercules Hook 0772009 Revolutionary Wall Hangers w/Laser Marker, 20-countCustomer Review: Semi-Disappointed Apartment Dweller Summary: 3 Stars
I'm in the middle of attempting to hang things on my apartment walls as I write this. The first thing I tried was a heavy, plaster, moulded piece that I always felt a bit nervous of hanging before because of the weight. That was on an interior wall in my apartment, (as in, between my own rooms,) and it required some muscle and twisting to get in the two I used for it. It wasn't easy as a nail and hammer would have been, however I now have perfect confidence in the weight being held, which feels good. They are quite sturdy once you get them in right. Then I hung a clock on the same wall, (haven't bought nails yet,) and again with a little muscle and twisting I got it in okay and it was again very sturdy. Then I tried a wall that connects to a neighboring apartment... and had to give up. I don't know what's in between the walls, but I'm sure it's heavily insulated or something, because with greater difficulty, (requiring the use of work gloves for friction and protection, and with a little sweat,) I got it through the width of drywall, but then I couldn't go any further, and was difficult to even pull back out. I'll need to get different hardware to use on those walls, which is fine, but they didn't warn you on the packaging that it's not compatible with certain walls, and thus I'm semi-disappointed. If I had thought about it a little I could have guessed that would happen, but I didn't, and would have like them to have warned me. However, despite the difficulty in getting these in, (must have been less dense drywall in the commercial, and I would suggest having work gloves handy,) I would and I'm sure will recommend them to others because of the weight-bearing capabilities. It feels good knowing that something heavy is strongly supported, and is definitely worth the hassle in getting them in if it's the right kind of wall. I also like the fact that I can put things on apartment walls in the morning with them and not worry about being too noisy. There's freedom in that. You could hang stuff in the room next to your sleeping husband and he wouldn't even know, (almost did that last night but was too tired myself.) And so three-stars is my verdict. You can't use them in every situation, they are a little hassle, but I'm glad to have them and will tell others to buy them for heavy items or weak walls.
Description of Hercules Hook 0772009 Revolutionary Wall Hangers w/Laser Marker, 20-countThe Hercules Hook is the easiest way to hang pictures, mirrors, shelves just about anything. Easy to install just twist, push and turn! No more drilling or pounding to try to find a stud - No more damaged walls! The reinforced steel design provides the muscle to hang and hold up to 150 lbs. Great for plaster, drywall or paneling. Twist, Push, Turn. Pick a point on the wall where you want the bottom of the hook to sit. Then, measure ¼" directly above that point and set the tip there.Next, with firm forward pressure, twist the hook back and forth (like a key) until you have chiseled through the wall. Now turn the hook upward and push completely into the wall until only the hook is exposed.
