Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hercules Hook 0772009 Revolutionary Wall Hangers w/Laser Marker, 20-countCustomer Review: great little gadget Summary: 5 Stars
PROS:
-Super easy to use. Just follow the instructions. Of course it won't go through a stud or anything, but as long as you're clear of that you should have no problem. Didn't really even take any muscle. Instant gratification.
-Haven't hung anything really heavy yet and probably will stick to pictures, but it does seem like it would hold more weight than a nail of similar size.
CONS:
-Things do tend to stick out from the wall a bit, so you may want to either squeeze in the hook part flatter before installing, or use sticky to keep pics straight after hanging. Using a knife or stick to pull the hook down a little flatter to the wall helps also.
-Some hangers won't really work with it well, for example a sawtooth that is cut *into* a frame (not a metal thing attached)- not enough for it to hook onto.
-"Pin-size hole" is an exaggeration -- it's really about the size of a standard nail hole.
-If you're hanging a few things side by side, it can take some finagling to get things to line up right. (Yeah, if I had AAA batteries for the free laser thing, it may have been a bit easier.)
SO...yeah, I have more cons that pros, but it balances out. They're just so much easier (and most likely stronger) than getting out a hammer and nail, wall anchors, etcetc. I won't use these for really heavy things, but I'll definitely be using them for all the smaller things I need places for.
Customer Review: Great hooks Summary: 5 Stars
First regarding the laser marker, I didn't even try to use it because it looks cheap and I already have one. Just the hooks alone worth the 14 or 15 dollars, and you are here to buy hooks not the laser marker.
As for the hooks themselves, they are really great. They are great because it's easy to hang heavy stuff. If you want to hang a 5lb picture frame, then go with the regular nail. But those hooks are the quick and easy way for those heavy stuff that you want on the wall. Someone in the review said it creates large hole, but no. It's not any bigger than regular nail hole and it sure is a lot smaller than regular heavy duty nails or screws.
To be fair, I found inserting into the drywall both easy and hard. Penetrating the drywall wasn't that hard, a few twist will get the hooks in the drywall. But pushing the entire hook into the drywall require a bit more work. Still, overall it's a lot easier than using other heavy duty nails or screws. And the best of all, you don't have to worry if it will hold your stuff or not. i was looking at stud behind the wall before buying those hooks, but realize my picture is larger than the distance of two studs. So I could only get one end of picture hanging on the stud. Those hooks solved the problem, just make sure you don't hit a stud with those hooks though.
Customer Review: Worked perfectly and no more "lost" nails Summary: 5 Stars
I used this to hang up a medium sized mirror over my fireplace mantle. These hooks work great--no hammer needed. And best of all there are no more "lost" nails. You know--when you put a nail in drywall and the nail sinks flush to the wall. Well that doesn't happen because of the hook on the end. Just make sure you plan for the hook to hang about 1/4" below where the pointed end goes in. (As always, measure, measure, measure!)
I totally disagree that these are hard to insert at least in drywall. (Maybe they ran into a stud or have something other than drywall?) And you're not going to get a smaller hole from any nail. Also, you don't end up with a larger hole because of having to keep picking the nail back out from the wall. I know a clock I'm going to re-hang where this is happening.
This set includes a laser marker which is pretty good if you don't have one. However you have to used the "putty" substance and/or the included thumb tacks to hold it to the wall. Not really wild about putting two OTHER holes from the thumb tacks on a wall, but you could have someone hold it. It is helpful and you can't beat the price.
Finally, I feel like decorating our house.
Customer Review: Strong as Hercules, Easy as Pie! Summary: 5 Stars
You know how you see items on television and they look good, but you are never really sure if they are going to work the way they say? Well, I want to let you know that the Hercules Hook definitely does what it advertises! We live in a doublewide and it is hard as heck to hang things here, but not anymore...
The wallboard used in doublewides and mobile homes is not designed to hold up pictures very well and unless you can find a stud, you can't hang anything heavy like a shelf without all kinds of special contraptions...Imagine my delight when I picked up a pack of Hercules hooks the other day. It included a laser level that alone is worth the $15! I simply took the laser level, attached it to the wall, lined up the bubble, turned on the light and in moments I had my hooks poked through the wall and a shelf hung on a straight line! I cannot tell say enough about what a great product this is! I know the shelf isn't going anywhere, it is hanging level on the wall and there are very small holes in the wallboard that will be easy to overlook if we take downt hat shelf!
Customer Review: Home Decorating for Dummies Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great invention.
I recently moved in to a new home that is built with very thin drywall. After drilling large holes, regular plastic anchors and even toed nails pulled half the wall out when my pictures and mirrors were slightly too heavy. I bought a small package in a local drug store to try them out. Hercules Hooks saved me! Not only do these work as advertised, but you'll probably want to buy extras when you see how easily they actually work. A little more than slight turning pressure on the point and you've got a decorated home. I started in the basement with the family art, and worked my way up to the kitchen, bedroom, and finally living room.
The laser level packaged with it is not worth spending anything extra for the product. It didn't have anything in common with the bubble level. Spend the 10 bucks and buy a real one. But that's not why you purchase the Hercules Hooks.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THIS PRODUCT ON ANYTHING BUT DRYWALL. It will NOT work on any other type of wall.
I LOVE them!
