Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hercules Hook 0772009 Revolutionary Wall Hangers w/Laser Marker, 20-countCustomer Review: Not as easy as on TV Summary: 3 Stars
The hooks do appear to perform as shown on TV, but my attempts to install them have not been very smooth. My house has block wall construction and there is apparently very little room between the back of the wallboard and the block wall. Nowhere near enough room to push the hook straight in and turn it around. My only marginal success at home required me to insert the hook at a very shallow angle to the wall. Even then I couldn't get the hook all the way in.
At work I've run into a similar issue with the outer walls. There simply isn't enough space between the wallboard and the outer concrete wall to twist the hook around like shown on TV. I did get them to work on one of the interior walls, but then I kept bumping into the metal studs, which are impossible to hear when you rap the wall. I ended up putting half a dozen holes in the wall before finding a couple spots that worked. They should include a stud finder rather than a laser marker with this package.
Customer Review: Impressive Summary: 5 Stars
Struggled with hanging hooks, and finding studs (in all the wrong places), and punching various holes in various walls for many years. Found these, and was very impressed. It's a very cheap option to try if you are at all unsure, and even if they don't work in all applications, chances are, if you are in the market for "quick fix" wall hangings they won't disappoint. The hole they leave behind is indeed small enough to fix easily if you move your hangings etc. Caveats include needing pliers if your hanging sticks out further than you would like since the hooks do stick out a bit, and also be aware of items not fixed securely - i.e. they are hooks, so your items "hang". I have a laundry rod (clothes hanger) being held up by these hooks, and it's got a little wiggle. It doesn't bother me, and I am not worried that it's going to fall down, but it might bother some people since it's not as tight against the wall as traditional anchors.
Customer Review: I'll Never Use a Traditional Hanger Again! Summary: 5 Stars
These hooks have proven to be as good as they say. They are so easy to install and use that I can't believe they weren't invented sooner.
There is a very small hole left in the wall, nothing compared to the large nail holes from traditional hangers (that often tear themselves down the wall leaving a much larger hole).
These really install by just pushing them through the drywall. It is so easy to measure for their placement since the hook sticks out almost identical to the hang point of your picture or wall art.
I have bent the hook end at times to accommodate various items and the strength of the product has not diminished.
Photographs, frames, original art -- all my recent displays have been hung using Hercules Hooks and I have not found one problem with them.
Try them -- you'll love them!
Customer Review: Worked well Summary: 4 Stars
I liked this product. They worked well. I used them to hang a forty pound Italian Mirror. I used two of them (to be on the safe side, it's an antique) and they worked like a charm. I also used them through the house on different, heavy pictures and they performe like champs. For small pictures, I think you're better off with a small nail.
The only drawback is that they do not hold things right up to the wall. If you are trying to hang something that requires a very tight fit, you are better off with a screw and anchor.
They leave a hole the size of a small nail, so if you are hanging a small picture, you're probably better off with a tiny nail, the hole will be smaller.
I really liked these for my heavier pictures and the laser level is kind of a neat deal too.
Customer Review: It works! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a pack of these, fully expecting to be out my money and back to wall anchors and drills and the typical headaches associated with hanging a rather heavy mirror with keyhole hanging slots. Imagine my surprise when it went up on the first go round! I've moved this mirror to several homes and it is always a project I dread. It's hanging and it's rock solid. It's also always been a 2 person project. Not today!
This room happens to have drywall, and I did experience some initial resistance when I went to flip the hook around, but I just slid it back and twisted it in the opposite direction until I got the clearance I needed to make the turn.
Ordinarily I don't go in for the "As Seen on TV" stuff, but this is one product that really delivers.
