Customer Review: Works great in drywall...not in plaster

Got these to use in both sheetrock walls and plaster walls. In the plaster walls it was extremely hard to get the hook in and made a bigger hole than a normal nail would do. I was hanging several pictures so I ended up getting a drill and drilling the holes first then putting the hook in. The hook was too long for my walls and I was unable to get the hook to push up in so I had to cut off a part of the hook with wire cutters and rebend it to make it work in the plaster.
In the drywall they were very easy and worked just like they said it should.
So I rated this item just 3 stars since they claim it works great and easy in both drywall and plaster and that wasn't true in my case.

We really love the Hercules Hooks! They are easy to use and really do hold the weight just as promised. The laser marker works, but the little bit of putty material included to stick it to the wall while using did not support the weight of the laser. The putty was also bright blue and the color came off on my off-white wall. I ended up having my husband hold it to the wall for me and that worked out great since we did have several frames that needed to be lined up. I don't hang new things that often so I wouldn't invest in an expensive laser marker. The hooks were worth the price paid and the laser marker was just a little bonus. Great hooks, I highly recommend them. In fact, I'm buying another set in about 5 minutes since my wife hasn't run out of things for me to hang yet. What I like most is the fact that I'm not having to put big holes in the wall caused by anchoring. I'm hanging a rod iron piece that weights about 25lbs. and all I need is a couple of these hooks.
The laser marker is lousy so don't expect much. It would be a great tool if the laser and leveler actually matched each other but they don't.
They would be better to stick with the tried and true "Ginzu Knives"!!

These hooks do an adequate job with drywall, but they're not especially miraculous or quite as easy as the demonstrations on television. They're not going to prove much more convenient than conventional methods for hanging stuff on walls.
And I find it more than a little sketchy that all of the four and five star reviews of this product come from people writing their ONLY amazon review. I think it's pretty clear that representatives from the product are artificially inflating the critiques here.
Don't believe the hype.

I was excited to get these hooks so I could hang some shelves. Unfortunately, I have to say I am very disappointed. The hooks make a much bigger hole than they claim, and they move around inside the wall so they are not steady! Even if I could hang anything from them, it would not hang flush against the wall!! The only good part of this package is the laser marker that came with the hooks, but I'm planning to return the whole package if possible! Be careful if you order these hooks!! In my opinion, they are not what the great product they are advertised to be!!!
