Tools and Hardware Reviews of Aube by Honeywell TI035/U Solar Time Table, Programmable Timer Switch, White

Customer Review: Solar Timer TI035/U
Summary: 5 Stars

This timer was installed at our neighborhood pool house to control four metal-halide floods. Since it calculates the sunrise and sunset based on Lat / Long the lights are always on and off when they are supposed to be; unlike a photocell that may turn the lights on early, or all day if it is a cloudy winter day. It supports a full 2400 watts (20 amp branch). Very easy to program and instructions are clear. I tested two cases of power failure; one at 4 minutes and another at 7 hours. In each case the timer maintained the program and most importantly the clock was till on time. It also "caught up" to the expected light state; they were on during power failure but went off when power was restored, as expected for the current time. I also tried the other case; off during power failure, but came on after power was restored as expected for the time. Note: you must have a neutral wire for operation.

Customer Review: Excellent Option Instead of Photocell
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought one. I liked so much I bought two more. This appears to be a very good switch that accurately tracks sunrise and sunset. And yes, the battery backup does seem to work well to keep the program if power is lost.

It also operates well with compact florescent lights. Most photocells will not do this. I do wish the color was more white like Cooper Electical plates, etc. Instead the "white" is more of a bone color. But I highly recommend. I think it will pay for itself in four months. I always forget to cut off the outside lights.

One comment is that the longitude must have a negative sign to get the correct sunrise or sunset. If you want the lights to come on slightly before sunset you can bias the time by entering another latitude or longitude.

Customer Review: Pretty Good
Summary: 4 Stars

Easy to program. Have not had any problems with it to date. The instructions verses product review contradict each oher as to whether it will auto time correct for daylight saving time. We shall see. Rather than having to do a full programming routine, I would like to see an offset feature that would allow you to use the sun set to sun rise program and allow you to delay or advance the on/off cycle. I'm using this to run 5 - 3 watt LED light fixtures. Which is important to note that some other products can't run a ballasted lamp like this or this low of a load. As with anything, I would love to see a lower price so as to recover the cost in a reasonaable amount of time in energy savings, but for what this does the price is competive with similar switches with less capability.

Customer Review: Very reliable workhorse timer
Summary: 5 Stars

I have three Aube TI035s (two of which are in outdoor protected locations) and they have never given me a problem over many years of service. One particularly nice feature with the Aube is that you can program the timer based on the sunset and/or sunrise times for your lat/lon and time of year. This is very useful for activating nighttime lighting. A convenient feature that I would like to see added to this product is the ability to automatically coordinate the time to daylight savings settings in the Fall/Spring.

I highly recommend this product over the Jasco GE timer. Although the Aube TI035 is more expensive than the GE timer, Aube offers other timers without some of the more advanced solar time features but which are similarly priced to the Jasco timer.

Customer Review: Easy to program but no battery back-up
Summary: 4 Stars

This unit was much easier to program than the Intermatic timer switch. Unlike the Intermatic, you can simply enter your latitude and longitude which are provided in the instructions. The instructions were MUCH easier than the Intermatic timer. The buttons are easier to press and nicely spaced. It works well w. CFL bulbs w. no flicker when turned off. Corrects for daylight savings time. However, this unit has no battery back-up so if you lose power, you will probably have to reprogram. Can be programmed to turn on at dusk and off at dawn everyday. It can also be programmed to turn on at different times on a day to day basis. It corrects for daylight savings time as well. Wiring was a breeze. Excellent product. Would have given it 5 stars if it had a battery back-up.
