Tools and Hardware Reviews of Aube by Honeywell TI035/U Solar Time Table, Programmable Timer Switch, White

Customer Review: Great timer
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great timer. It was pretty easy to install, and it works great. Some folks might want a backlight, but I did not want to call attention to the switch as it runs our front porch light. We have not had a problem with a compact fluorescent bulb in the light.

Customer Review: a move to Aube
Summary: 5 Stars

I gave up on the Intermatic timers and after checking out timers on line, got two Aube T1034A-3W timers. They were simple to install and the programming wasn't too difficult at all.

Unlike the Intermatic timers, the aube units are very flush and do not stick out from the faceplate.

The manual may be a bit confusing, but a quick reread results in it making sense. I'll be watching to see how well the timers operate over the long haul. Someone noted that there is no battery backup -- the memory, so they save, holds programming for 30 days.

My initial thought is that the move to Aube was definitely worth it!

Customer Review: Easy to program but no battery back-up
Summary: 4 Stars

This unit was much easier to program than the Intermatic timer switch. Unlike the Intermatic, you can simply enter your latitude and longitude which are provided in the instructions. The instructions were MUCH easier than the Intermatic timer. The buttons are easier to press and nicely spaced. It works well w. CFL bulbs w. no flicker when turned off. Corrects for daylight savings time. However, this unit has no battery back-up so if you lose power, you will probably have to reprogram. Can be programmed to turn on at dusk and off at dawn everyday. It can also be programmed to turn on at different times on a day to day basis. It corrects for daylight savings time as well. Wiring was a breeze. Excellent product. Would have given it 5 stars if it had a battery back-up.

Customer Review: Working perfectly
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy install. FOrtunately I had 3 wires and not two. If you do have two wires to this timer it will not work or require some fancy wiring.
Using GPS coordinates to set your location is a bit odd, but works perfectly.
Much preferred over the Intermatic I bought at the Orange big box store. I went through 2 of those timers in 2 years. Their issue is they still use a mechanical switch to flip the switch inside the box. THIS AUBE timer is completely electronic. Look to have it working until I sell the house.
I also use a 40W CFL light.

Customer Review: Almost perfect
Summary: 5 Stars

As far as I know, there is nothing even close to this on the market.

I have had a few of these for many years. None have ever failed. Setup is straightforward and programming is reasonable.

Having the lights automatically adjust for sunrise/sunset is great. If we leave the house at 4pm and come back at 9pm, the front lights are on.

There is a little bug in the programming. It screws up if it is programmed to turn on before midnight and turn off after midnight. I forget now how it screws up, because I changed mine to turn off just before midnight.

I would like more flexible programming, but that usually comes with complexity. There isn't much space there for a display.

1. Be able to set an offset (sunset +/- nn minutes).

2. A random feature where it would vary the actual on/off times by +/- nn minutes.

3. Automatic adjustment for daylight savings. This may be a problem, becasue the politicians keep dork around with the the cutover day, so maybe it's better as it is. This also allows me to sych the clock twice a year. Maybe an upgraded model could include a received for the time sigbal from Colorado? :-)

The timer does not keep perfect time, which is surprising. I would think it could used the 60 Hz from the grid to stay perfectly in time.

This is one of my favorite gadgets. I am not sure why it is so hard to find.
