I have a VERY small yard (I live in a manufactured home park) and needed a way to compost my end of season garden and to amend some of my soil. My 4 1/2 year old and I put it together in a matter of minutes! So simple! It goes together a bit like a "lego" set (no tools needed). It takes up the same space as a trash can and came with a very helpfull pamplet to get me started. It looks a lot like a trash can so I positioned it where I store my cans so as not to bother my neighbors. I've had no problems with smell, as long as you balance your "brown" material (shredded newspaper, dried leaves, etc.) with your "green" material (grass clippings, veggie tops, etc.) and keep out anything animal related (fats, dairy, droppings, with the exception of washed egg shells-they're good for adding calcium). I may be getting another one next year, as my garden keeps growing. It would give the compost more time to "finish" while I used the other bin. All in all I'm very happy with this bin. The price is low and the size is right.
Update: Been using my composter 4 months and still loving it! As a side note, we've decreased the amount of trash we were putting to the curb by at least a bag a week. Good news for the land fills! As long as we keep up the balance of green matter to brown, still no critters or smell and my neighbors have STILL not said a word. (No news is good news when your sitting on top of your neighbors in a trailer park. HA!) Now that the weather's cooling off, it also gives me a places for my ashes from the wood burner. We just keep adding to it, and it keeps breaking down the material. Everyone should seriously look into the ease of composting!
