Tools and Hardware Reviews of Twin Draft Guard BrownCustomer Review: Skip Original, Go Extreme! Summary: 3 Stars
I wasn't really sure how to rate this product, as I've experienced both good and bad with the Twin Draft Guards.
First of all, I bought the original Twin Draft Guard a few months ago and it was very poor-fitting around our front door....it was floppy, and made of thin, cheap fabric. I kept it at the door all this time and just figured it was better than nothing. For these reasons, I rate the original version 1 star.
The other day my Mother-in-Law recently put a draft guard on her front door and I commented how nicely it fit on the door. The fabric was a sturdy twill and the insulating tubes were larger and fit snugger than ours....it turns out she bought the Twin Draft Guard Extreme!
I went out today and bought the Extreme version and it is a 100% improvement from the original Twin Draft Guard. It fits great and snug under the door and has the nicer twill fabric. Don't Buy the Original, Buy the EXTREME! This sturdier version definitely earns a better rating.
It's just a shame the original is such a poor product, especially since it's advertised to fit tightly around your door, when in reality, it is pretty awful! Only buy the Extreme version, otherwise, save your money.
Customer Review: I found the solution to the lose fit of the "Twin Draft Guard"! Summary: 5 Stars
I left this review in a few places (comment sections).
I found the solution to the lose fit of the "Twin Draft Guard"!!!
I was having the same problem as a few others about the sloppy fit of this item.
Solution: I went to Lowes and bought one ¾ inch PVC pipe insulation FOAM.
This foam is of the stiff kind (while holding the middle of the foam insulation, both ends should stick out. If when holding the foam insulation both ends flop down, then you've got the wrong foam insulation.) and should cost no more than a $1.30.
Make sure you get the uncut version of this pipe insulation foam. This foam is a bit wider than the foam that comes with the "Twin Draft Guard" (TDG).
One side of the foam insulation slipped into the TDG reasonable but the other side I had to massage it in (a little difficult). That alone made it go from a sloppy fit to a nice snug-to-tight fit.
Now, to stop it from sliding off the door when I open the door between the hallway and room... I put a thumbtack at the very end of the TDG under the door.
Perfect! It's now snug and doesn't slide off the door when opening or closing the door.
Hopefully this will help others.
Customer Review: Rolls completely under the door as you shut the door! Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this on clearance because the box was torn up for four and some change. I figured, if it is junk, I am not out that much. Well, I can see where it would work possibly in some instances, like my pantry/any inside the house door with no threshold, but who has drafts in their pantry/inside house? I purchased it to block drafts coming into our garage and when you shut the door, the first flimsy roll gets caught underneath the door as you are shutting, then by the time you get the door to the door jamb/threshold and are ready to press it to, the entire TWIN DRAFT GUARD is on the inside of the house! Literally! It rolls completely underneath my garage door and comes out on the inside. My husband said it was becasue of the weather stripping and the threshold and dared me to try it on the pantry as well as other doors inside bedrooms, etc. Okay, it worked there (except on carpet, only on our wood and tile floors did it work) and who blocks drafts WITHIN their houses? I was going to return the product, but for what little I paid for it, I can resell it on eBay and make some coin off of it. I suppose someone else is having good results from it from the looks of the reviews on here.
Customer Review: USELESS...DOESN'T WORK! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this from the website after seeing on television, because I really wanted this item. Styrofoam inserts into fabric sleeves...the commercial/video shows attaching it by sliding it on from the end of the open door (it does not actually attach to the door), then shows people opening and closing the door. If you look closely all of those pictures are of doors on smooth wood surfaces, and the door is FLUSH all the way to the bottom of the floor. In reality, doors have a lip (about 1 inch) from the bottom of the door to your floor or carpet. After you put this draft guard in place and HOLD IT FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR to get the door closed, as soon as you open the door again it falls out of place, just enough to jam the doorway so you cannot close the door again without readjusting inside and outside of the draft guard, from the bottom of your door. NOT USABLE AT ALL!!! Also, I received the "free" ($30 value) over the door hanger, and it does not fit over any of the doors in my home (I was charged $36 and they only want to refund the 19.99 for the actual product--I pay for the "handling" and for the return shipping; to end up with nothing would still cost about $30.
Customer Review: In theory a great idea Summary: 1 Stars
I thought we had found the perfect solution for the many cold drafts in our home, and in all honesty when the door is closed and the twin guard in place - it does block a good amount of the draft, but the problem in our case was when we actually started using the door, the draft guard doesn't stay in place, and begins sliding off. Theres nothing to hold it in place. The product is actually made up of two individual foam tubes that need to be inserted into the cover that you see in photos. The foam is extremely light and cheap, which i think in part accounts for some if the issues we encountered.
Typical scenario: trying to open/close the front door with hands full, the door wont move freely because opening it has caused draft guard to slide partially off the door and it's now caught on the threshold. Not only has it begun to slide off the door, but the foam has started to come out of the cover, making it impossible for me to reposition with my foot. Each time I use the door I have to have free hands to make sure that everything stays in place, which it wont do on its own.
Now, don't say I didn't warn you.
