Tools and Hardware Reviews of Twin Draft Guard BrownCustomer Review: Customer service really bad Summary: 2 Stars
I tried to order this product on line for an aunt living in Chicago. Many times I entered my charge card with mailing info, when I hit the order now button the screen went blank. I never got a confirmation I gave up calling customer service-the first time I waited 19 minutes the second I hung up after 15 minutes. So then I got called the number given on TV and got an automated voice asking for my address and credit card number. Never did it ask me if the product was to be shipped to another address. I listened for 15 minutes to advertisning hoping for an opportunity to give my aunts address when the automated message ended. So I called customer service, listed on the website again, got through and ordered the product for my aunt. The gentleman said I couldn't cancel the phone order for 12 hours -to call back the next day. Today is the next day and when I called was told the phone order has not been posted and I should call back over the weekend. I was today told the the product was on back order and would in Feb. Forget TwinDraftGuard. You can buy the same/similar product at Bed, Bath, & Beyond.
Customer Review: Shouldn't have to fix the product to use it. CHEAPLY made. Summary: 1 Stars
I understand "why" they made the product very wide on the bottom part.
But sadly most of us don't have doors that wide unless you are doing an industrial door.
I had to take off my door and STAPLE the thing to it, and overlap the material to make it fit snug.
This solution, while a pain in the rear, worked well.
But I should not have to "fix" their product, it should work "as advertised", which is does not.
The product is made cheaply, no way to explain the cost of the item.
The material is super thin and seems like it would rip at the slightest tug.
The foam middle part is too light weight to do any good, and very flimsy.
It does glide on laminate flooring.
Have not tried it on carpet or other flooring types.
Suggested improvements:
- thicker heavier foam, or a different kind of filling.
- thicker sturdier material to ensure it lasts.
- adjustable middle section, OR available in different sizes.
If you can sew, or use fabric tape, MAKE YOUR OWN.
It's probably cheaper.
Customer Review: Does not work well unless it is used on a door that is never opened Summary: 1 Stars
TWIN DRAFT GUARDAlthough the Draft Guard has to be made of thin material so the door can open and close, it is made rather cheaply, and the foam on either side should be filled with dried beans or something that is heavy that is shapeable instead of the foam. The problem is that this product does not fit most doors. Once you get it slid under the door, it is too loose under the door and a lot of air still gets in. Unless you go outside and pull the foam that faces the outdoors tight, so the foam that is inside the house is pulled tight up against the inside of the door, it will not block any cold or warm air from getting in. And each time the door is used, this has to be done again, which means you have to use another door to walk outside the house, pull it tight again, and then go inside the house using the same different door, otherwise the Draft Guard moves again once you used the door and has to be rearranged again. So, basically, unless you plan to use this on a door that is never opened or closed, the product is worthless.
Customer Review: Works if you have the right door Summary: 3 Stars
We bought the draft dodgers because we live in New England and our front and back doors to the condo have significant space between the frame and the bottom part of the door.
Construction is real basic. What you are paying for is the "creative design". Im wondering if you can have the same kind of effect if you take foam pipe insulation from Home Depot and make a cut down the center of the foam tube and fit it on the bottom of the door. Its probably more snug and wont move around. Will someone try this and tell me how it goes???
The draft dodgers slide around and have to always be repositioned. Im assuming operation would be smoother if the space was smaller betwen the frame and door.
If you want to pay for something like this, then go ahead. There are other, cheaper perhaps more effective ways to do it. But that takes some time and energy.
It does work because we have been noticing the drastic difference between the inside of our condo and the outside hallway.
Customer Review: Works on drafts, but not without problems Summary: 4 Stars
This fit and worked well on my standard sized front door, a little loose, but still moved over the carpet acceptably as the door opened and closed. I kept it on the door for two years and got benefit from retaining heat and AC, but the part that faced outside got so dirty, I didn't even want to remove it for cleaning. Over time the foam worked its way out of the cover and the fabric tube seemed to bunch up more and more.
Solution: I got a storm door. Still, I have to admit I probably could have increased the life of this thing through regular removal for thorough cleaning and re-installation. I can't complain too much about it since it did keep out the drafts and saved me money over the time I used it, but it isn't the 'final solution'. I had tried the `door snake' previously and found moving it each time I used the door way too much of a hassle. This product was far better in that respect. It may not be perfect, but it does help with the heating/cooling bill.
