Customer Review: Scares the Children

What a disaster. These alarms now go off nearly every night. Really scares my children. I am going to remove all 10 in my house and buy another brand. They've been awful to deal with for the years we've had them. Can't tell if the old model 4120 or this is the real problem. Just called Customer Service and they basically wanted me to remove the hardwiring from each of the 10 and then rewire each one and then listen each night to figure out which one is bad and then they will replace that one. And this is for a interminant problem of a $12 dollar item. Given all the other reivews here, seems there's a problem that the company doesn't want to resolve.

Yes, I agree with everyone above, blame the electrician who installed it, this alarm is horrible, HORRIBLE!!! its Saturday at midnight and it began to make the noise, I run to the store to buy 9v batteries, replace them all, by getting on the damn ladder. As soon as I'm done replacing all the batteries the darn beep continues, this time louder because now it has more power from the batteries to chirp. I tried pushign the button to test the system and the beeping continues. I have been forced to buy brand new smoke detectors every year, EVERY YEAR!!! Its the third year in a row I have to swap them out. I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS PRODUCT. I want to move out of my house just because of this.Customer Review: Flimsy

My beef with this product is that the sliding compartment for the battery is very poorly made. It jams easily, breaks easily, and chips easily. The battery doesn't always hit the leads, even if you've gotten it in, so the thing keeps on chirping. It is difficult to change a battery without some kind of mishap, such as the battery not wanting to fit, or the compartment getting stuck at the base of the hinge. Some amount of force is often called for, but then you risk pieces of plastic breaking off. I've tried removing the alarm from its mounting just to make it easier to replace the battery, but at 4:00 a.m., this is just another major annoyance that should be necessary.Customer Review: Remember to follow maintenance directions.

The instructions say to vacuum with a soft brush attachment and to test once a month. As with many electronics, dust is a big issue. As well as storms and power surges. We have these units throughout our home and the have worked reliable until we started have random beeping in different rooms. We read the instructions, starting cleaning the units and testing them. All but one stopped beeping. I went on line to read the trouble shooting directions and did everything. The unit still beeped once the next day. I called customer service. They talked me through what I had done, said that it is under warranty and are send me a new unit. Absolutely no hassles.Customer Review: Poor make

I agree with many of the other reviews. Our builder installed the older model 4120. Just about everything about this design is lousy. The battery compartment does not hold the snugly so that you have to try closing the door several times before it fits. When the battery drops a little lower within the compartment, you can't open the door. When inserting a new battery, you need very good light to see the polarity sign which is all the way in the back and hard to read. Of the 9 units installed, we have had 2 malfunction within 5 years. And of course, this is always at 3 am which just makes it a terrible experience. Save your money and don't buy this brand.
