I planted the seeds about two weeks ago and all three herbs are sprouting very nicely. The chives are already two inches in height and the other plants are about half an inch above the soil. Be patient with the parsley, it takes about an additional week to germinate (I thought they just weren't growing in at first, but they all popped out of the ground a few days later).
I can't remember what exactly the instructions said that were included, but be sure to dampen (so it's dark but not a soggy saturated mush) all of the soil beforehand. I put most of it down but left enough to put a 3/4 inch layer above the seeds after I placed them. Be careful watering since there's no drainage. I usually cup my hand and dip it into a bowl of water and then just sprinkle it over the plants (maybe 2-4 oz of water every 2-3 days or as needed; you can do a toothpick test just like you do when you're baking a cake). The soil has maintained moisture very well and the plants are staying hydrated through that method. You may want to place it back from the window during the hotter months (it's February right now and my window faces directly south, so the sun is extremely bright, but it's only warm).
Overall, you have to be patient and you have to pay very close attention to it, but I do highly recommend purchasing the kit if you're a beginner :]
