Tools and Hardware Reviews of BelOMO 10x Triplet Loupe Folding Magnifier

Customer Review: Heavy duty stuff that is built to last
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this in February 2006 and have been using it for various indoor tasks, e.g. inspecting tiny electronics boards and adjusting fountain pen nibs. It has performed really well, it still does. The best part is that, after all these years, I know that this thing is built to last.

The cover is made of steel plate (it attracts magnets) about 1/16 inch thick. The entire thing feels very sturdy, I cannot flex any part of it at all. And the machine screws holding things together are as tight as they were when new, I haven't tightened them or anything.

The black coating is very durable and of high quality. No part of it has flaked off, chipped, nor been scratched off. It still looks like new. No I'm not exaggerating, though I'm sure that's because I used it mostly in house.

I don't have much to add as far as the optical quality is concerned. Others already said that it's excellent, and I agree.

I really appreciate the quality of this product, and frankly I think it is extremely cheap as I know it's going to work many more years.

Customer Review: High quality
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very pleased with the product. I also own one of the cheap Chinese loupes. The BelOMO is much less distorted and much clearer than the Chinese loupe.

This loupe is larger than the ones I am used to using. That is good when you are using it, but it is slightly more inconvenient when carrying it. I won't be putting this one on a keychain but I could if I really needed it.

I did discover that the lens is so large that, in addition to using it as a loupe, I can hold it like a traditional magnifying glass and use it to read the small type that otherwise gives me trouble. I wouldn't want to use it to read a book or even an article in a magazine or newspaper, but it works fine to read ingredients in a grocery item prior to purchase.

Customer Review: Best loupe
Summary: 5 Stars

I own one of these loupes. While I haven't compared it personally there have been product reviews that compare it to the B&L triplet loupe costing much more and being of equal or better quality. This is a true Hastings triplet loupe. This is very important. As the previous reviewer pointed out if you are buying a diamond you absolutely need to have a loupe and learn how to use it for checking out diamonds. I am an amateur geologist and have a broader use. The only downsides are the price here is extremely high. Do a google and you will find sites that sell it for under $15. It is also held together by machine screws that can come loose. Use some locktite on them and you won't have a problem.

Customer Review: Hard to beat as a "walk around" magnifier
Summary: 5 Stars

Compared to the 20x loupes, the BelOMO is sharper, sharper at the edges, and easier to navigate and focus. Compared to other loupes I've used, like the best 7x loupe I've found, the BelOMO is obviously better optically, very high wow factor. In other words, my usual experience is that one typically sacrifices some aspect of optical quality to get more magnification. The BelOMO delivers increased magnification while improving most aspects of optical quality. Although the viewable area decreases proportionately at 10x, because of the higher image quality at the edges, the "subjective" viewable area appears to be about the same as my 7x.

Customer Review: BelOMO 10x Magnifier
Summary: 5 Stars

Often I use a stereo microscope but that isn't always convenient. So I have a couple of hand-held magnifiers. The BelOMO is the best and amazingly clear, bright and distortion free. I should have purchase this one a long time ago. It's always a joy to see something through high quality optics. I only wish they were still available for $15 like the first reviewer claimed in 2005. They are more than double now. Even at that, I am going to purchase a second 10x and a 20x. They are that good. I also got an lanyard with mine that velcros around the whole loupe and it includes a quick-disconnect Fastek buckle.
