Tools and Hardware Reviews of Essick Air H12-400 3-Speed Evaporative Console Humidifier, Oak BurlCustomer Review: Noisy & Doesn't Perform to Specs Summary: 2 Stars
On anything but the lowest fan setting this unit is LOUD! First time I ran it at top speed, was 35 feet away talking on my cell phone and caller immediately questioned "whats that noise". Unless its at the lowest setting, you don't want to be in the same room.
Specs say it puts out 12 gal per day. Running at full blast for 24 hours puts out about 7-8 gals here. At lowest fan setting, more like 4 gal/day or less. This is with outside temp 10-30 deg f, and interior humidity under 40%. In fact, in 2500 sq foot one story house best I can get is about 38%. Fan never shuts off at middle humistat setting.
Also specs say it has 5 gal capacity. True. But unit shuts off with water still in the tank. Realistically you get about 4 gal before it shuts off. Also, the refill container is only 2.5 gal. And, it does not immediately fill the tank (takes some time). If you could get 12 gal/day, you would refill 5 times. For me, at full blast, about 3-4 times.
Bottom line. It puts water into the air, but not as much as advertised and with lots of noise.
Customer Review: This one is going back! Summary: 1 Stars
First impression started out badly. Upon opening the box and taking out the unit it had small pieces of the "oak burl" and other white pieces all over it, inside and out. Looked like it might have been in the same space when a saw was taken to another one and the flying pieces adhered to this one. Cleaned it off as best possible, and set it up to run. Sides are a bit flimsy, so they would "shift" when moving it. Then turned it on. Well, our house is two story with an almost completely open floor plan, including our bedroom. We set it in our bedroom, because we normally run the humidifier at night. But, with the open floor plan we hoped it could humidify much of the house. We could not turn it on past the lowest setting or the noise would have been way too loud for us to sleep. We couldn't even hear the TV with it above the lowest setting. So we left it on low, enough power to humidify our room. In addition, the humidistat is just one, two or three rain drops, not percentages. We're sending it back. To humidify just our room, we can get something much smaller and quieter!
Customer Review: Attractive and efficient Summary: 5 Stars
This unit is an attractive addition to any room's furniture and is very efficient. When running on low speed you don't even know it is on. I mention this because, once you get the humidity level where you want it, low is all you need to maintain your desired level. One thing I like about this unit is the water tank that is supplied. At 2.5 gal. capacity it is quit heavy but it comes with a tube you attach to your faucet to use for filling. Once filled you invert the tank into the humidifier to fill the reservoir. When the reservoir is full (about 5-10 min.)you can remove the tank and refill it and store in the humidifier unit for when you need to refill the reservoir again (about every 2-3 days for me). When storing make sure you don't invert the tank in the reservoir this will result in overfilling and possible damage to your carpet or flooring. By having a full tank on hand you are never in need of water when empty. In closing let me say that this unit is well made and well thought out for an efficient way to add humidity to your home.
Customer Review: Made Big Difference Summary: 4 Stars
For the price, it's a very good whole house humidifier. It's dry in Arizona where we live, and my spouse had problems with dry nasal membranes that caused allegy-like symptoms. The humidifer has made a tremendous difference, putting at least five gallons of moisture into the living area every day. The house interior temperature seems more comfortable than before, even with the AC set at 80 degrees.
It does take some effort re-filling the 2.5 gallon tank (weighing around 20 lbs.), but that would be typical of any large humidifier. Bacterial-static solution to prevent algae, mold, etc. must also be added with each re-fill.
My only complaint is that it's really noisy at any speed beyond the minimum speed, which we usually use. There is also a very subtle vibration rattle that is barely noticeable. Even at low speed, it might not be appropriate for use in a bedroom for anyone who is a light sleeper. However, the noise (on minimum speed) is not that noticeable elsewhere. I would purchase this product again.
Customer Review: It works but its cheap, cheap, cheap Summary: 3 Stars
This product works, but it seems like it was cost reduced to the max. The plastic case is one piece and as thin as it could be without breaking. It has only one 2.25 gal tank to fill it, but it takes 4.5 gal to fill it, so you do it twice. The filler hose is cheap and kinked and looks like it came from a cheap aquarium, watch out when you use it. If it gets blocked by the kinks, water flies everywhere. The float switch is as flimsy as can be, mine does not really work unless you bang the side of the humidifier (not too hard, or the case might break). The fan is noisy as heck except on the slow speed, don't put it in a bedroom. But it works, it does humidify a house, for how long, I am not sure. Whoever cost reduced this product, do not go to work in the aviation industry, as I fly quite often.
