Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bench Dog Tools 40-102 ProMax Cast Iron Router Table ExtensionCustomer Review: Changed my life - okay that's a bit much Summary: 4 Stars
I have had this about six months. I have a small basement shop and a contracter saw with 36" cross cut capacity. This product helped me not just step up in router table quality, but made my shop much more efficient. I mounted this on the right side of my TS and connected it to an existing cast iron wing. So, I route in the opposite direction I saw. So what? Some people have commented that this is some kind of horrible thing. It doesn't matter. Also, if you do a right side connection (instructions are clear on this) you need to support it from underneath - that is quite a bit of iron hanging out there! I did just this with a home made router table sort of cabinet that houses the router for dust collection and stores both router stuff, but also table saw stuff. Wow, do I feel organized and it makes things so easy for both tools. In effect, I have a router table connected directly to my TS, but I think it is great! Even though I have a Delta saw, connecting it to my right side configuration required drilling some holes. I was a little surprised since this is about the most common table saw on the planet. Leveling the plate was a bit tricky and mine is slightly warped. We aren't talking much here, but it does bother me a little. Still, it is more for looks than performance and I get good results. Of course I am looking into a new router and the plate I bought for my old router is not the same one I need for the new router, so another $50... Do yourself a favor. Get that nice new dedicated router for table use first or with this unit and save yourself the added expense later (I had a PC 690 and am gong to go with a Triton). The table seems to pick up rust a little quicker than my other cast iron surfaces (ts, jointer, bandsaw...), so I keep it waxed.
A little advice. Get some help. This thing is heavy. I was able to rig up a way to hold this at the right height while I attached it, but I was very lucky in having a sturdy cart that ame in at the right height!
Finally, I'll say this. I researched the heck out of this. There is simply no other alternative worth looking at in quality and build. If I sound nit picky above, I'm not. Just being honest. Truth is, with any power tool there are little issues, even Festool or Lie Nielsen. Sometimes when you read this stuff online, you think, "Oh no, I can't buy this thing now...", but that is not the case here. Benchdog makes good stuff and this is up there. Nothing like iron! If you want a table saw extension router table, this is the one. Others are a little less in price, but junk.
