OK, I lied. One dispenser bottle has sprung a leak. But it's my fault, as I put it through the dishwasher last week, knowing better, and now I'm delighted to find that a replacement is available (for less than $5) from the manufacturer.
We bought our first one for nice practical reasons--the downstairs shower has no shelves for shampoo bottles, and as it was the kids' bathroom, I figured it'd be worth the investment to buy this thing, rather than having the kids stepping on half-closed bottles on the shower floor, dumping shampoo into their hair by the half-cup (and then not rinsing it out), and so on.
We bought another one for the upstairs shower once we realized how nice it is to be able to just push a button for soap, rather than repeatedly unscrewing caps (this was before flip-top bottles), and to have our tubwall shelves uncluttered by bottles--especially at cleaning time.
The units have stayed attached to the walls without a problem. They have never leaked. They are decent-looking (especially compared to the clutter of bottles they replace) and easy-to-clean (just don't use the dishwasher). My cases have yellowed just slightly over the decade we've had them--but due to good design, they're free of the "glop" and "gunk" that tends to accumulate in corners of things hung in showers.
I see that new designs offer clear bottles, visible from outside, which look lovely in the ad photo--but I'd advise against them, because many types of soap and conditioner aren't THAT nice-looking, and they also tend to leave "water-lines" as they run out, which isn't very attractive. It's very easy to pop the lid up and check levels with the plain-jane dispenser, and the little windows generally work just fine for letting you know when to buy that next bottle of VO5. (BTW, the bottles don't look like it, but they really do hold 15 ounces--a whole bottle--of shampoo, so this thing is very space-efficient.)
The fact that they've survived this long in my home, under heavy use, speaks volumes about them...you NEED one (or more) of these.
