Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal RepellerCustomer Review: Didn't Work-Really Need Inconsiderate Neighbor Repeller Summary: 1 Stars
The below is my experience with one unit. As of the date of writing this I have not tried a second unit. I may have gotten a bad one ... it seems that at least 20% of the reviewers have while others are happy with the results.
Focus Question: What is the best way to stop neighbors from walking their dog on our lawn?
[...]
Conclusion: My unit does not work. Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller
Fact Summary:
Dogs walk happily by it with tail wagging. Neighbors think they have a right to walk the dog on our lawn and by our mailbox ... allowing the voiding of both urine and poop. I am extremely allergic to dogs and my grass dies from urine, and my newspapers are thrown on the grass that "neighbors ??" think they have a right to use (i.e.; yes some when confronted argue this) ... with no answer as to "Why are you not doing this at your house?"
Texas has a "Criminal Property Damage law" that seems to cover the destruction of grass by dogs urine. I was hoping to avoid using it or taking them to "small claims court" with this product. But, after testing in continuous mode: (1) it did not bother our cat at all and (2) set at the highest level (i.e., all creatures under that level were suppose to be affected) ... dogs walked by it with their tail wagging ... and the neighbors continue to use the lawn.
I may have gotten a bad unit ... and I am considering trying another copy. I will update this review if I have more positive outcome.
Customer Review: Finally, a Product that keeps animals out of my Fish Pond Summary: 5 Stars
I had gone to the fish stores in my area numerous times in an attempt to keep my fish safe in my fish pond. They recommended electric fenses, nets over the pond, a variety of products containing pellats of one type or another which were spread around the pond and said to keep such animals away. None worked. They jumped over the electric fense, ate the fish and then wrecked the pond after coming into contact with the electric fense in getting out of the pond. The particular offending animal turned out to be oppossums. They can jump onto any net and it sinks to the bottom. They tear it up and even move large stones that I have trouble moving. The pellets work for a week or so but never for any length of time -- and they make a terrible mess. I then came across this product and tried it out. I have two of them mounted and in over a month, I have had no animalsa attack the pond. Some Buyers speak about having a problem with resealing the box aginst the weather after you go inside the box to select the settings as to animal being targeted and intensity of the ultrasonc sound wave. It can be a nuisance but I learned to get a good seal. We just had a 5 day rain storm here in Southern Californis and the sytem never failed. It work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is always connected to the electricity; don't try to operate it solely on battery power. I personally give it a 5 star rating.
Customer Review: Best Yard Gard To Send Stray Cats OnTheir Way !!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I went on Amazon, and found this Animal Repeller called Bird
X YG Yard Gard, Ultrasonic Animal Repeller.
I ordered it despite a few of the bad reviews that I have read. The Repeller
arrived at my home in 3 days, and I was ready to try to send 8 stray Cats
out of my Yard forever, because I was tired of raking smelly feces and
cleaning 3 Exterior Doors from Cats marking their Territory..
.
Following the directions that came with the Ultrasonic Animal Repeller
Bird-X YG, I set the Yard Gard on a big plastic box for the 1st and 2nd
day, but the Cats just laid around the yard and nothing happened.
On the 3rd day I placed the Yard Gard on a Cement block which was
just the right height for the cats ears, I so AMAZED! IT WORKED AND IT
SENT THE CATS AWAY AND IT'S STILL WORKING FOR ME AND I'VE HAD IT
FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH NOW, AMAZING!!
Now 1 or 2 of the cats come back, but when they hear the ringing,
they take off again. I have the Yard Gard set on Constant on and I have
it plugged into an electric outlet outdoors. This is a GREAT Item, and it
really works! I recommend this item for everyone that has a problem with
stray Cats, I think it's also working on the birds that land and eat the
fruit off my plum tree. Haven't any Birds lately neither. GOOD ITEM!!!!
Customer Review: Not as effective as hoped Summary: 3 Stars
We have many fruit trees, and at the time of purchase, a brood of ducklings that I wanted to protect. I'm pleased to say that the ducklings grew to maturity without problem, but our fruit trees are still under constant attack.
We tried all settings...the low, all purpose setting to keep the coons and possums away from the nest and to keep the squirrels out of the fruit trees and duck feed. I would say that for a couple of weeks after installation, the yard was relatively squirrel free. A month later, however, the unit is still installed, set on the Squirrel setting, and I keep interrupting squirrel picnics every time I go out there.
The raccoons and possums haven't been as much of a problem, although one did try to attack our drake (who isn't penned up with mama and babies), which never happened before (I think the coon was just startled by the drake, who was snoozing in a different part of the yard than the nest box, much closer to the highly desirable compost pile). When confronted, the coon evacuated *toward* the Yard Gard, although it certainly did not linger.
All in all, I've noticed less traffic in the yard overall--not nearly as many cats in the yard--but it is certainly not a 100% fail safe plan. Currently researching further squirrel deterrent measures.
Customer Review: Don't waste your money! Summary: 1 Stars
I have a pretty bad problem with folks walking their dogs and leaving their dog poop bombs in my yard for my children to step in whenever they play. I read the mixed online reviews and because I was so desperate to try something new, I bought and installed three of these things in my front lawn. Guess what? Poop is still all over the place. In fact, because I installed these it has only agitated irresponsible dog owners and they bring their dogs to our yard intentionally now. The dogs do their business right in front of these repellers. Doesn't bother them at all. I installed them and have used them exactly as recommended. No luck. The bad thing is that Bird-X says it takes a few weeks to see results. If you give it a few weeks, you will be unable to return it to Amazon. Complete waste of money. Dogs aren't bothered by this, but kids in the neighborhood can hear it and hate it. Other than that, doesn't work. Don't buy it. This will not work. It works about as effectively as our judicial system. There is punishment for crimes, but there is still plenty of crime and it doesn't deter people. If you buy this, you will only be out money. Oh yeah, and to run three of them per month costs about $10 in electricity. Pure poop.
