Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller

I purchased the Bird-X Yard Guard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller in April, and received it the first week of May. I installed it the next day to cover the parking area where I park my 2007 GMC Envoy Denali. I have been plagued by electrical wiring problems because of a groundhog that gets underneath the vehicle and chews on the wiring harness. Prior to receiving the Yard Guard unit, I have peppered the area with mothballs and another repellant product that is in a capsule form. I have given this unit some time, and have tried different settings, but to no results of keeping the varmints away from the vehicle. I have it on AC with the back-up batteries installed. the red signal light is on, but no audio 'chirp' has ever been heard. This morning I went out and found an adult Groundhog and 4 'pups' playing Ring Around The Rosy with the green Yard Guard box. I am very disappointed, but will give this some more time before returning it, as it does have a six month repair or replacement warranty. But so far.... "It don't work!"

Customer Review: Raccoons FINALLY defeated! Bird feeders (and birds) intact!
Summary: 5 Stars

For 20 years I've bought all kinds of squirrel and raccoon-proof hanging bird feeders, only to find that the raccoons soon figured out ways to pull down, even unscrew, and almost always destroy them (running away with key parts!). I felt guilty bringing back feeders with a lifetime guarantee to the bird store for repair. Moreover, the raccoons would leave muddy paw prints all over our decks in the process.

In desperation I bought this Yard Gard, concerned that if I cut down the raccoon visits, I might lose the birds in the process. I was also concerned by the rather mixed reviews for the product.

Yard Gard has done the trick, more than we ever dreamed possible! No more raccoons or squirrels, and the birds seem unaffected by the high pitch sound emitted when an animal comes in range(unheard by humans). We set the dial on intermittent (triggered by motion) and plugged it in (it also works on batteries, as an alternative). Moreover, the Yard Gard customer service folks are very helpful answering any technical questions.

I am only sorry I didn't discover this about 20 feeders ago!

Customer Review: gets rid of evil cats and squirrels
Summary: 5 Stars

We had a problem with a neighbor's two cats using our adjoining flat roof as both a litterbox and a soundstage for howling. We'd tried all sorts of things and nothing seemed to deter them so my wife was looking online for a solution and came upon this gadget. We put it on the roof and to give you an idea of its effect, imagine if you can, the look of a terrified running cat with his paws over his ears. It's worked on both those guys so well that they haven't been back in the past year although they're constantly looking over at it, apparently to see if it's on.

Our next problem was with squirrels in our backyard. We live in Brooklyn, NY and have about a 20' x 20' backyardthat has for years been savaged by squirrels. Last year I humanely trapped seven squirrels for relocation before I finally gave up. This spring we bought another one of these units for the backyard and although they still dance along the chain link fence separating the yards they've yet to actually enter our yard to dig it up. For us this thing is a technological marvel and so far has a 100% success rate with annoying critters.

Customer Review: Not effective even in the simplest application.

I have had this device attached to my tri-level city house for over a month for a dog problem. It is attached under the bedroom overhang and above the garage door. I use AC power and aim it exactly at my trouble spot which is my mailbox, approx 30 feet from my house. Nothing is blocking the device, I adjusted the sound once after a couple weeks as instructed. I had it adjusted all the way around to max effectiveness then turned it to the middle of the dog/cat range. Instructions say it works up to 80 feet out and 50 feet wide and to adjust it occasionally. Since installing it, I have watched various breeds of dogs wander curiously through my yard. Every neighbor has at least one dog near me and they don't mind if the dog does its business in my yard. A kennel 3 doors from my house "accidentally" lets 5 or so dogs out everyday and they run through my zone of protection as easily as illegals cross our borders. I expected so much more from this device. Save your money and buy Ammonia for $1.12 a bottle from Walmart and spray your yard in the trouble spots every couple of weeks...much more effective.

Customer Review: Defective? Poor Quality? Both?
Summary: 1 Stars

Had mice in the basement so purchased this as well as many others.Plugged it in.Has various settings for repelling insects to dogs, cats, deer etc. . I put it next to my two sleeping dogs to test it and turned the different dials and had no response from either dog. I didn't feel it was functioning at all so I returned it for a refund.

I had purchased two other repellers from the same company and had to return one of them that quit working after two days (both dogs barked at it when it was first plugged in but after two days it stopped making a beep sound and the dogs didn't respond to it as they did when it was new)).

I kept the one that transmits through the wiring of a structure but I don't know for sure whether it is working. I have inexpensive ultrasonic repellers in every room in the house; Black and Decker purchased at Home Depot. When I plugged one in in the basement a mouse jumped out startled and couldn't get away fast enough. I blanketed the house with these repellers to make sure the mice wouldn't go upstairs only back outside the way they came in.
