Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller

Customer Review: Bird-X YG Ultrasonic Repeller
Summary: 4 Stars

The neighbor's cats scratched my car so I bought the Yard Guard unit. I put it on my front steps pointing directly at my car in the driveway ~30 ft. away. There have been NO footprints or fur on the car for a month and a half now. I set it to the lowest frequency to start which covers all animals. One day I saw a cat laying in the driveway behind the car so I pointed it at the cat and increased the frequency until the cat woke up looking around to see where that noise was coming from. Set at about half way (mid freq.) worked best and the cat walked away. I have it in sensor mode with 4 C cell batteries and it's getting to the point where they may need to be replaced. I would plug it in if I had an outlet on the front of the house. The unit covers a large area but cats still climb on the old car behind my new one. It may work better in continuous mode or if it was up higher or maybe 2 of them, one for each side, but this suits my needs for now.

Customer Review: So far so good!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had been having a problem with my neighbor's 3 cats pooping on my front lawn. That stuff smells bad enough as it it but if you accidentally mow over it with the lawnmower it's awful! So after checking out several products I decided on the Yard Gard, mostly because you could plug it in and I didn't want to have to be replacing batteries all the time. Just before I installed it I picked up the last of the cat poop and turned the thing on. So far it's been about 6 weeks now and there hasn't been one bit of poop out there and I know for a fact that the cats are still around. The only odd thing was that just a few days after installing it my wife saw one of the cats sitting right in front of the unit, seemingly not bothered at all. I have no idea why unless maybe it was so close the waves went right over it. I do know however, that unless it was pure coincidence that the cats decided to simply change bathrooms at that very same time, the Yard Gard works!

Customer Review: May be fine for the right situation

Beleagured Bob and I have something in common: I too started out popping at squirrels with my pellet gun.... until I got glasses and couldn't hit 'em any more. But his use is definitely not what Bird-X had in mind. In fact, it should drive his birds away with how he set it up.

I wanted to get rid of mice and other varmits that come into the attic and basement when it gets cold and make annoying noises in the walls at night. So I ordered one of these and set it up in one of the two attics. Now I can't tell you it's worked 100% as I suspect the critters are still getting in via the basement and other attic. I plan to invest in two more, set them up and see what happens. I'll write again when I can say with any certainty that the ultrasonic approach works. I can say that I can't hear it and with where I've got mine, there's no pets to be annoyed.

Customer Review: It works!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

After I put this on my front yard, the neighbor's dog would still come and poop/pee on my property. I had to play around with the intensity of the device up to a level, where you can also hear the high freq noise (my wife and friends still can't hear it though... may be I have a bionic power or something...hehehee). After that the dog seems getting irritated. It would still come for pee, but never for poop...lol!!! So I increased the power even more, and I think after a few days of irritation, the dog finally stopped!!! So be patient!!! It's NEVER gonna work on the first try. You have to play around with it. Just keep the intensity of the freq changing every day a little bit and see which one is your optimal. I had to put to on Raccoon level to get the dog's attention. took me a week to get to this level.
I didn't try the battery life or the motion sensor, so can't really rate those features.

Customer Review: Worth it
Summary: 4 Stars

We have had tree damage and bird carcasses due to cats chasing birds; dead and contaminated plants and vegetables and an unusable lawn due to the amount of feces and urine. Projectiles and mouse traps didn't do the job. This product did. No cat signs! We have had it plugged into an outlet on motion sensor for less than a week. We had it on the highest settings and positioned the product at cat height.
I did NOT notice it going off with storms (we get strong windtunnels in our area). The directions state clearly that you have to adjust the settings to find the magic spot for the particular animal, as individual hearing abilities differ.
I only gave it four stars because: if you can hear your tv when it goes on and off, you will be able to hear this- it's several decibles louder. I am 28 with no hearing problems. It also makes a short, louder burst of noise when it stops. Worth it? YES.
