Tools and Hardware Reviews of Bird-X YG Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller

Customer Review: Worked like a charm on Racoons but not squirrels
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this product because I was tired of a racoon digging my yard every night. I was desperately looking for something to solve this problem. I saw the reviews and bought this product. Initially, for almost a week, racoon was coming every day and doing his job of trashing my yard. But after a week, it seems that he got tired of the sound waves, and decided to change it route. Racoon hasn't come back for over a week now and I am keeping my fingers crossed. Word of advise, don't put the machine in the motion detector mode and connect with an AC power to be always on. This way, racoom can't escape. The machine does bother people if you are in its sight. So, we disconnect it whenever we are in the backyard.

I have a bird feeder which is abused by squirrels. I was hoping that this devise will work for this problem too but it hasn't. I see squirrles are not bothered by this device.

Customer Review: Pure Junk
Summary: 1 Stars

This Yard Gard Ultrasonic Animal Repeller Is the most worthless Item I have purchased for sometime,I got it to keep dogs from doing their business on my winter rye grass lawn, at first I thought it might work great, for about the the first two weeks it seemed to work real well, and then the parties started, the dogs would come right up to the repeller sniff it, and then dump or urinate right in front of it with the red light glowing and the repeller sounding it's fool speaker off. After 35 days of use the motion detection mode quit working on the unit and now I have great looking yellow spots everywhere on my once nice green lawn, I guess I could play hopscotch or checkers on it as it looks like a big game board now. Don't waste your money on this Animal Repeller by reading all the positive comments as I did, you probably will not be real happy you made the purchase.

Customer Review: Used for 7 weeks - it works so far!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a DAILY problem with neighborhood cats and dogs that used my decorative rock yard for their droppings. This was getting to be an extremely stressful situation. I got 2 of these units and positioned them to cover any dead zones. After 7 weeks, no droppings from either cats or dogs.

I have them plugged in to an outlet so that I don't have to worry about batteries, set on the highest settings, set as constantly on as opposed to using the motion detector setting and sitting on a block similar to a cat's height. I can only hear them when I stand right in front of them. However, my 20-year-old grandson with better hearing stood 60 feet away across the street and told me that they still hurt his ears. So, the age of the animal to be deterred may make a difference. The directions could have explained the settings better; however, I just made my best guess.

Customer Review: Do not waste your money
Summary: 1 Stars

We purchased two Yard Gards last summer to keep animals away from our shrubs and flowers. It is a cheaply made gadget. Opening and closing plastic cover is a problem, as it gets stuck, and then it refuses to snap back into place, and you need to get it off the mount each time you need to replace batteries.
I can't tell if it helped in summer, as I use other animal repellents as well. The main reason we bought it, is for the winter, when hungry deer come to munch on our rhododendrons. Guess what- the minute temperature went below freezing, the gadgets started screaming non-stop without being triggered by a moving subject. There is nothing in product specifications indicating it is not for winter use.
We had to take them down as this permanent noise was very bothersome for us and our neighbors. And we are on large one acre lots, far from each other.

Customer Review: Seems to work on raccoons
Summary: 4 Stars

I wasn't sure this was going to work, but after dealing with raccoons invading my attic for nearly a year I decided to give it a shot. I have tried moth balls and other repellents on these pests and nothing worked. I have sealed the entrances they made in my roof. They continued to come back and create new ones.

I knew where they were climbing to get to the roof and I pointed the Yard Gard in that direction. For over a week now I have not heard any scratching sounds on my roof (or in my attic). Maybe it's just a coincidence and they found a better home after annoying me for over a year, but i'm hoping they will stay gone.

I didn't give this product 5 stars yet because i'm still testing it out. I can sometimes hear the noise when it gets quiet around the house but it's still better than raccoons invading my home.
